I'm currently trying to replace my battery (2001 4.5l) and have a couple of questions that I've not found answers for in these forums:
I've removed the black air plenum as advised so I can get access to the bracket securing the battery. This bracket has a central bolt which I've removed (this loosened the bracket so the battery now has some movement) however to the left of this is another (overly) long thread pointing upward with a nut on it (which I have removed). Removing the nut did not allow me to remove the bolt - should it have? Should I be able to remove the battery securing bracket completely?

On a different tack, and assuming I get this far - when I connect a new battery and the alarm goes off - is a simple press of the key fob to silence it or something more complicated? (I read somewhere about recoding the keys)

Many thanks in advance for your help,

James

Do you mean to the left of the battery bracket fixing? There should be two bolts, one on each side. These should point down rather than up. The nuts are in the passenger footwell. Loosening these allows the battery, and the tray it sits on, to slide out from the wing. Sounds like your battery has been changed previously and the fixings have been changed. If they were anything like mine then they were probably badly corroded and in need of replacement.

You should be able to peel back the carpet and withdraw the bolt. Originally the nuts were just held in with mastic which made tightening them back up a two man operation. Make sure you apply silicon or mastic to the holes, it's a potential source for water leaks.

Alarm shouldn't go off but the central locking will activate. Leave a door or the boot open when re-connecting the battery.

You need to press and hold your keyfob within a few seconds of reconnecting your battery.

Don't do the classic noobs trick like me last weekend and leave the fob in the car whilst reconnecting the battery hehe
