Im having cams fitted currently.

Bear in mind camshafts for the ajp cost a ridiculous amount (well over £1300 for the cams and followers alone) (If it was a chevy LS or any other popular high performance V8 engine there would be a massive choice of high performance cams , typically about UK£200 a pair)

So given that you're paying a _massive_ premium for cams for the ajp, how would you feel when your garage then rings you and tells you "the cam followers they provided dont fit properly, we rang the tvr parts who told us sometimes when they dont fit right you have to grind them down, and this has been a labour intensive job"

so you pay this massive premium for the parts, which then don't fit right?

anyone encountered similar?

downright disgrace.

yep, if you speak to the right people you can get to the manufacturer of said buckets, presumably there's a tolerance so if you measured each hole you could have buckets to suit. who's building your engine?

there are? I spoke to kent cams and piper cams, neither of whom had anything to suit, both offered to send my worn ones in and that they could do something with them, but both also said that the price wouldnt be significantly cheaper than the £1300 which i told them new ones cost from the "official" source of tvr parts.

That price makes no sense. I bought an engine that had done 15K, with an associated gearbox/diff and a whole bunch of ancillaries for less than that.

The cam out of the head is unmarked. If I sold you my cams as new I would have made a profit on the whole of the rest of the engine, and I pretty much don't think you would ever know the cams weren't brand new smile. Surely asking for bespoke design to an original fit is a strange way to go when there are so many dead engines turning up?

And why so expensive anyway. Its not like anyone touches the CNC grinder once it gets moving.

I smell a supply and demand situation rather than a true worth.

Had new cams and buckets earlier this year. The work was carried out buy these guys -

There wasn't a problem with fitting etc, although the cams themselves were very expensive.

my thoughts exactly, I think castle race engines have something in the pipeline, but wasnt quite ready when I called them :| Hope they get it done for the benefit of others. As you said, its certainly not true worth
