Joy of joys: starter motor gone.

Options are therefore to try and replace the damn thing myself or get it to someone else - or at least to somewhere where I can work inside.

I live on a lane on the crest of a hill. Fairly steep one side, less so (but still downhill) the other. Little actual pushing required then as I have gravity on my side.

Before I make a bad situation worse though, has anyone had any successful experience with push starting?

Yes they can be push/bump started and I have done mine on several occasions without any problems - namely when the starter motor began to die.

The only thing that i may be wary of, is that it may affect your cats, but as I don't have any I don't need to worry about that part of the equation.

If anybody has any bad information then I'll bow to this further knowledge.

Yes, very much so. Had to bump start it all the way back from Le Mans last year - camp site, petrol station twice, Eurostar car park, queue, then off the train and finally in a Brit petrol station.

It's a piece of cake, just treat it like a normal car!

Oh, and just to embarrass myself enormously, the problem proved to be the fuse and not the starter motor...boxedin
