My drivers side airbox has been leaking oil from underneath at the breather pipes since the trackday in september. A very common thing amongst the Cerbs I see.

This weekend I took the whole thing off to secure a fix.

The problem is typical TVR. oil catch is attached to the bottom of the airbox by four wood screws securing fiberglass catch to fiberglass airbox, and a generous dob of sealant everywhere. frown

So bit of use, bit of vibration, and the whole thing works loose with the screws either lost or spinning round in the hole held together by only sealant. Thing leaks like a sieve.

So, simple fix, the kind the 'engineers' could have so easily done at the factory. Four holes in fiberglass opened out to 6mm. Four blind end rivet nuts put in. All done up with hex head allen key bolts. Took about twenty minutes.

What was a part waiting to fall off, now becomes the strongest thing about the airbox, and will never come adrift.

Just don't understand the mentality of TVR.

Nice fix. I can only assume they had bulk supplies of woodscrews and silastic at Bristol avenue. My old 3000M was put together in pretty much the same way as the Cerbera smile

What was inside the catch to stop the misted oil going into the engine?

The catch is a cup sized container with a wire wool pad pushed in it. Nothing stops the misted oil going into the engine because the cup in the airbox is pretty much full while the engine is running.

The catch tank is pretty much a nod to the environmental lobby to allow burning of excess oil.
On my Cobra I have a seperate catch tank which cannot therefore drain into the inlet or go back into the engine.
Every so often I drain it and dispose of it which I guess is much more environmentally unfriendly.

You will likely find a small puddle in one end of the airbox if and when you take it off.
