The history..... I weighed the 96 car last year at the same weighbridge, the book says 1100kg, the car came in at 1040kg with a 1/3 of a tank, so probably about 1025kg.

I weighed the "lightweight" smile this weekend, the book says 1150 for a 4.5, and I'm guessing the LW is 20 kg lighter, so was expecting 1130 ish..... It came in at 1140 with a 1/4 of a tank, so probably about 1130kg.

I've a suspicion that the bridge under reads, however, they assure me it doesn't.

Everything about the 4.2 feels lighter, the floppy bonnet, doors, boot lid, but I didn't expect it to be a full 105 kg lighter.

There's obviously a possibility, that the bridge measurements have changed over the months, so I'm going to get the two cars up there together and do some repeat tests.

Damn that multi CD player smile

How come the 4.2 has the floppy bonnet compared to the lightweight? Should be the other way round shouldn't it?

When my '97 4.2 was corner weighted a few years ago, it was 1200kgs with a tank of fuel and some random stuff in the boot.

Oh I'll tell you about the new setup and gearbox later.

Does the older one have aircon? Different alloys and a hydratrak diff on the newer car?

I believe some of the earlier cars had very thin fibreglass compared to the later ones.
This might explain a few things.

Yeh, they've both got air con & the hydratrak diff.

The old one has the original 16" Oz where the LW has the 18" spiders.

Visual differences... the old one has the "letterbox" view out the windscreen, which I presume is down to the lower roll bar, the LW has a "wrap around" cover going over the front of the doors, and that's about it...... The LW has more speakers plus the multi Cd, and something looks different in the boot... I think it's the position of the fuel tank.

The bits that you can move on the old one feel lighter, the bonnet is all "floppy", and after getting out of the new one, you end up slamming the doors on the old one, so I presume they're lighter as well.

Hard to believe it adds up to over 100Kg though.

I'm going to try & get them both up there together on Saturday, do some repeat tests, and prove it beyond doubt.

Not a problem Simon.

It's at "Sita" up at Burnt tree island, they buy their cameras off me, so let me on for nothing. I'll buzz them on Friday, to make sure they're in. (They're not officially open).

Plus it's nice & clean, not like the scrap yards.

I was in the QE last night, and on looking at my ankle this morning, it's got better. They're reluctant to operate on my back while it's improving, so they've asked me to go back in six weeks. Suits me, as I was 5hitting bricks.

Plus I need to get September's invoices out smile
