Okayyyy....

After 3 hours of sodding about, superglueing myself to various parts of the car and indeed several pairs of scissors, I have finally resolved my brake noise (something which has confuzzled garages and indeed failed the Leven, sure-fire fix method).

I've superglued some anti-slip matting to the back of each pad and amazingly they both work and have gone silent. I am pleased smile

Woolworths? It's just that anti-slip mesh stuff (foam / rubber combo) that you normally bung on your dashboard to put phones / pdas / small children on to stop them from ending up in your lap every time you accelerate.

Remove brake pads, trim matting to fit, glue to back of pad. It may well degrade eventually but then I'll just repeat the process. 1 layer on the fronts (EBC RedStuff pads) and 2 layers of it stuck together on the rears (TVR standard rear pads). Mine were evil - it was "HERE I COME LADS!" Heard from two miles away whenever I braked. Now they're silent smile

Cost a couple of quid smile

PMSL, at a guess - YES!

Hmm, scratchchin what a choice, squeeling brakes or the smell of melting blown foam!

Might have been tempted to try a soldering mat from Wickes instead, that's designed not to catch fire!

Am I thinking of the right stuff: the thin, rubber mesh? Also useful for stopping oners plate sliding around on a tray whilst eating in front of the tv?

Maybe the o/p has just discovered a new kind of "glue", with the pads embedded into this stuff after it's melted?

Not sure of the material, but some oem pads do have a rubberised anti-squeel shim fitted as standard confused

I was writing, 'go to woolworths at lunch time' when I scrolled down and saw this - lmao!

I'm still giggling now - sorry V8 but your second post sounds like something I'd write just after a massive gulp.

My squeal really iritates me, but flames coming out of the RL7's at traffic lights?

Hmm... off to woolworths at lunchtime me thinks hehe

Hey I'm happy. Decided to see what would happen from a real high-speed slowdown, get the pads working and really hot. All still seems absolutely fine. You are all welcome to laugh and think what you like - I'm happy and it's worked a treat.... for now smile

I came across these, whilst looking for some suspension components, I think it may be a 'safer' alternative:

My brakes squeel like a stuck pig, that is they used to up until Sat. After a day thrashing the cerb around Bedford Autodrome, they are now deadly silent....result

Teflon sheet might be OK? Mrs DL has Teflon baking sheets - we got them in the US but somewhere like Lakeland Plastics or even Woolies might sell it.

Done some long runs, including some high-speed to low speed hard braking to test it and.... no fires, no squeel, no problem smile

Will re-post in a month or something and let you know if the "fix" has failed or if there are are any unforeseen problems (like a video of it on fire on youtube if you're right).

6 weeks now and no squeal, no fires, no brake fade, no problem.....

Tests included braking @ 1.25G (according to the performance box). I think I'll make do with said fix - even if it causes much derision smile

Excellent, pleased it's still okay. Not a fix I'd personally do, but glad it solved your problem.

Is the foam a sticky mess now or is it still intact? Just out of curiosity.

Amazingly, still intact. I had the wheels off and had a look the other day.

I fixed mine by removing the pads, cleaning out the groove in the middle and chamfering the top edge of the pads. The rear pads are slightly bigger than the disk and so leave a small lip running along the top edge of the disk.

Fixed mine all year until last week.
