Hello,

I'm just in the process of fitting a very nice SP back box, but after taking to the nice guys at silverstone about a lack of top end power I looked inside the CATs & as he guessed one was gone, half the inside is rolling about in there!
The thing is one replacement CAT seems to be about 500 quid & Track Cars linked decats are a LOT cheaper is anyone running a set up like this, it needs to pass track day noise regs. SP understandably can't say how loud it will be when you start adding other peoples bits in to the mix. Joolz thinks it will be just the same as the full SP system.
Can anyone help?

Why don't you just buy the complete SP system?

I wanted to keep the CATs for noise reduction as much as anything so just got the back box as the standard pipes from the cats to the back box are stainless anyway. But having got it all in bits I've found on is shot. I'm going to try some of joolz linked pipes as they don't cost too much to take off again if they are too loud, then I'll try some other CAT root...

i've recently put some TRC linked de-cats on my car, to be honest the car doesnt sound louder at all until about 3.5k and above, then there is a BUT more noise but not a hug amount - in fact i'm considering non-linked de-cats now for a bit more......

That's interesting, thanks. Do you still have the standard back box?

or you could try cat bypasses with cherry bomb type mufflers on them, JP make them for ACT.

Any idea how much these are? They don't seem to be on the ACT website. For some reason I want the SP rear box, but its a lot of money.....damn them. hehe

I've got a feeling they're about 200 notes each?

Sure, they will be going up for sale if I can find some straight de-cats and like the sound more :-)

Luckyone,
I've got linked decats courtesy of Trackcar, plus an SP back box. It's a quality piece of kit - Racing Green asked me where it came from as it impressed them.
I've been measured at Snetterton at 98bp, Brands at 97db and Bedford Autodrome at 101db, all with the same setup. Go figure.

Hi,
I have a SP full system including linked de-cat pipes. I wouldnt say its offensively loud but have still got to try it on an SPL meter. It cetainly increases the flames out of the tail pipes :-)

Linked decats will gain you hp but it's only marginal, it also helps balance the flow of exhaust gasses. The linked decats are also quieter than the standard decat pipes, but create a totally different sound (better imo)

Doesn't the full SP system come with linked decats?
Or is it a cheaper option to use TCSs linked decats with the SP back box?
Could I do this? (I have a sports box with Cats)

I have just had the same predicament Luckyone - car down on performance, turns out to be a blocked cat - needed urgent fix cos' was off to Spa and the Ring,so put straight through pipes on with existing Sports exhaust. Did the job fine. It's very loud!

All the 'boys' at the Ring loved it though! Sort of sounds like a WW2 Fighter really with pops and bangs like Flak too!

I plan to have an SP exhaust at some point, they produce a lovely sound that isn't too raucous, so right combination - imho.

(Curiously - I got on the Ring with no silencers this time - last time I had the cats in with the sports exhaust and they chucked me off?) rolleyes

Yes the full system does come with linked de-cats, but as you say it is cheaper use TCSs linked decats with the SP back box, all in £813.50 rather than £999 to be precise, both fitted your self prices.
If you are paying someone to do it for you it may reduce the price difference even more as I found it was better to cut off the links between the original pipes that you have to retain that run from the cats to the back box & re-weld them back closer together as the new SP back box has the entries closer.
The SP full system does have a larger bore by about 4mm & the bends are better than on the original pipes, which could affect flow if your after maximum power. You pay your money, you take your choice…..
