Afternoon all,
Like many of you I'm on a perpetual quest to get my car as perfect as possible. The time has arrived when I need to get the engine out for an overhaul (worn valve guides, lots of oil use, runs badly). To rub salt in my wallets wounds, I have a leaking rear shock (original TVR) so I'll need a pair of replacements (GAZ something or other to match the fronts) sooner rather than later.

I've been advised to budget around 4500 for the engine. Anyone know what the going rate is for the suspension? I guess I'll be getting 2 dampers + springs.

Also I'm thinking that as the engine is going to be rebuilt & remapped, it would be a wise time to get my old bent exhaust system replaced so the whole lot can be tuned together. What alternatives to the SP system are there? And how much?
I think I might go over the old 3k a year budget this year hehe
Cheers

Don't know about two shocks.

But 4 Nitrons fitted cost me £1400, 4 ohlins fitted cost me £1800.

Engine.... have a word with Power, they quoted me £3.5K if & when I want mine doing, that said, they might have been letting me off a little bit, as they've done the timing chain & rebuilt the oil pump already.

I'd go for gaz again... at least you know what you'd be getting as your use to them on the fronts.

As far as the engine goes, no idea, it all depends on what kind of goodness you want going in there.

your profile says you live in dorset, DORRRRZZZZZZZZZT smile to be more precise and, like me, you're a software guy, though i've never done embedded stuff..... wife wants to move down there (maybe devon), near the coast, and I'm getting itchy feet after 7 years in manchester.... are there any decent software houses down there that you know of?

I m currently getting my engine rebuilt at APM after the timing chain snapped, the price is very very reasonable compared to other garages in the South. Give Andy (APM) a call to get some prices. Also contact Jamie at Castle Race engines, he is similarly priced and also very knowledgeable on the AJPs. Those guys both run racing cerbs for the TVRCCC, adn really know their stuff.

?
Yeah, I'm gonna go Gaz again & end up with a full matching set. I guess they'll be less than Nitrons so presumably <1000 for 4 so 500 ish for a couple of them?...
Enginewise I'll speak to the man & see whats what along with any suggestions anyone here has.

OFF TOPIC BIT....

Join us! Workwise, there are lots of banks & suchlike in Bournemouth. Flight Refuelling, Sunseeker & Siemens are local engineering places. Some places might involve a bit of a commute (Southampton, Portsmouth about 30-60 min, M3 corridor around 1hour ish) but there are a lot of little firms around. Rates are relatively low in Dorset but increase as you head into Hants & Berks. I do contracting near Portsmouth right now & its pretty good. If I really need work then there's tons of stuff along the M3 to tide me over til another more local one comes along.
Not sure about Devon - I guess you'd have to look at Exeter & Plymouth.
Its very nice down here with lots of sea & beaches & good roads to blast around. House prices are harsh though hehe

I'm currently leaning towards APM right now - he reckoned something between 3500 & 4500 if I recall correctly.

That's the sort of thing I like to hear smile so 300 +setup time would probably be a good ballpark for 2 rear shocks & springs.

I faced the same choice for my re-build not long ago.I chose Jamie Rogers at Castle Race Engines(01327 831466) for his huge experience,VERY reasonable prices, and he's also a really nice chap to do business with. He's done a superb job on the engine and i'm really pleased.
