I've done a search and come up none the wiser. scratchchin

What are the track rod ends from? I know that the track rods themselves are Ford Scorpio, but has anyone worked out what the ends are from?

I can't take the car apart yet as I'm racing at Castle Combe next weekend, so can't take one off and compare are the motor factors.

My winter overhaul list is growing, but I'm beginning to source quite a few bits. biggrin

bump!

Come on, someone must know.

I can get Scorpio ends for £1.95 each, but I've read that these aren't right. frown

I spent a while looking for these last year.

Gave up in the end and got some from a dealer. Not too expensive.

I suspect Ford Cortina but this is only a suspicion.

Just thought I'd push this to the top again.

Has anyone sourced any Rod ends recently?

I can get the rod ends from an indi' for around £22 each, but with postage it's coming in at over £50. I think that's a bit steep.

I'll gladly pay for specialist parts but I'm sure these will be from an old Ford or similar.

I have so far sourced top and bottom ball joints for a fraction of the cost the TVR Specialists want, simply by finding the original use.

I have looked at the rod ends on my car and they are stamped up as '01 437-0' anyone recognise that code?

If I have to take one to the factors, what am I looking for, thread size/pitch, length, taper. Anything else?

Thanks

Tim

I am going to hunt for track rod ends as soon as I can get the damn things off the track rods - any suggestions on how to clamp the rod so it doesn't twist when trying to turn unfasten the end?

You mentioned in another post that the ball joints were Saab top and possibly Jaguar for the bottom. Have you got details of make model, part number etc? I've got the front suspension in bits so I might as well replace them if I can get them for a reasonable price.

BTW how did you split the ball joints from the steering arm and the tiny little metal disc the upper one is fastened to?
I haven't been able to find a ball joint splitter big enough to fit around the joints.

Morning Mike,

I can't answer your questions about how to disassemble as I have yet to take mine apart, have to clear the garage to give somewhere to work and spray the bits once they're off.

As for application. I'd like to double check fitment before publically posting, don't want any 'you told me it was...' type posts.

I'll email you off board with what I've bought.

Good luck

Thanks Tim, email received.

I have now removed the ball joints. I just supported the steering arm/circular mounting plate for lower/upper joint in a large engineers vice using the top of the jaws. A couple of sharp taps and they were out. Didn't need any great force. If I could have found a splitter that fitted I think they would have come out easily.

I thought they were in reasonable condition but one of the lower ones is very stiff and notchy and one of the upper joints has a split in the seal - though it may have been done during the removal.

So I'll get them ordered and confim they are a suitable fitment.

thanks again

Mike

Hum - looking at the clever trevor site they look ford to me. Capri perhaps?

Only way to know for sure is to take them along to a motor factors probably, but I think I paid around £18 each for my last Capri pair which were aftermarket.
