Well not quite.rolleyes

The horn and beam buttons on the steering wheel are playing up. On left turns, they both work OK but straight on and on right turns neither works. Any suggestions from you electrical gurus on the PH massive please?

It'll be the ribbon cable thats wrapped around the steering wheel boss. Home repairable/replaceable by all accounts. Just not by me paperbag

Had a look at this last night. All seems to be in good order. I'm assuming that there must be some kind of electrical brush contacts on the steering wheel assembly, is it likely that a fault on this would cause the symptoms? If so , how would I get at them?
As I said, everything works fine on full left lock but with the wheel in a central position none of the switches on the steering wheel work or if they do it's intermittently.

take the steering wheel off and check all the connections are ok. Also make sure that the ribbon is in an even position so that it still makes contact when on full left or right lock. Its been a while since i did mine but i think thats how it works! Mine had a problem where it wasnt fitted equally so on turning left the lights would flash, horn sound and wipers go! was simply because it was pulling on the ribbon!

And on most occassions after start up, I need to toot the horn to get the wipers to work for the first time. Go figure?

Definitely. Whilst tinkering last night I managed to make the horn work but when it did the rev counter sprang into life!

If you peel back the top of the black foam ring that sits behind the steering wheel, you will see a small PCB with 3 (I think) white 2 pin molex connectors. When mine did this one of those connectors had popped off. Easy to check.

Aha - I get this too, works every time without fail. Do you need to toot again to get them going whilst you're underway or is it only the once? If my wipers are on, then they'll stay on. If I stop them, then I usually need to toot again to start the wipers again.

Used to annoy me, particularly when trying to use occasional wipers down a busy high street. Now I just toot away and I've started waving at random people. Some of them wave back, but they don't know why hehe.

Nope, just the once, first time I need to use the wipers after start up. They work everytime after that until I switch the car off. Upon restart I have to toot again smile

My one used to have a prob with lx's where wipers, horn and indicators wouldnt always work, had to hit hazards to pring htem back to life. Really annoyed me. Andy at APM couldnt suss it out until it happened to him when the car was being serviced. He then found the prob and fixed it. Was a mighty relief.
