Had fluffy dynoed on tuesday after having the new exhaust fitted just to make sure everything wasy running ok. Came out at 361.5 bhp which i believe is about right for a standard(ish) 4.5. Bring on the remap hehe If anyone in the north east is looking for a rolling road or a custom exhaust I would highly recommend Vsport, in Boldon, Sunderland thumbup

Torque's all over the place and crosses the power curve in a very odd location. scratchchin Like you say, bring on the remap!!

power graph's entirely typical of a syd 4.5 daftlad smile the graphs cross strange cos they're not on the same scale thats all.

Good figures there for a std car smile

I was pleased and disappointed at the same time, pleased everything was running pretty much as it should be but disappointed that there wont be big gains to be made with the remap and short induction. Still looking forward to the improvement in drivability though.

Shouldn't the torque and power lines cross at 5252rpm on the graph and not at what looks like 3200rpm?

Check the scales for torque and hp - they're different.

That's good solid power for a 4.5 for a std unmapped engine. With the engine appearing to be one of the stronger ones then there is a chance that a remap / Whirlwind Induction will reap very good gains.

Let us know how you get on and if you get the work done by Jollz at TCS then he has the same Dyno, so further RR sessions should show the gains fairly accurately.

Matters are already in hand, Just waiting for Joolz to give me the nod when he gets the induction kit and suspension in. Cant wait!

As for good gains I'd be happy with getting close to joining the 400 club and a tourqe curve that doesnt look like a mutant camel.... smile

The flames look superb .. which is more than can be said for the power curves.

Looks like it must drive like a dog from 2600 to 4000 ..

get it mapped and discover the real Cerbera. Looks like you will not be disappointed.

You should see 400yes.

The Whirlwind Induction will smooth out your curves along with a bit of mapping by Joolz.

possibly (probably) a daft newbie question but are the quoted power figures of 420bhp for a 4.5 V8 just wildly optimistic? Would appear so looking at this thread but just wondered.... Are the 4.2 figures similarly inflated? eg more like 300 than 360?
Thanks
Jono

4.2s tend to be on the money. Standard 4.5s don't tend to be, but can be made to hit the standard figures. Being fair though the HP difference between the 4.2 and 4.5 is vastly larger than the capacity improvement.

Cutting to the chase.... broadly the 4.2 is just about always hitting what is says on the tin and the 4.5 is wildly inflated (pre remap).
The same is the case for RR S6s etc afaik

The RR S6 figures are maybe a little inflated, but not by as much as 20% as it seems with many 4.5 AJPs.

Geuss it depends who's power loss tale you want to listen to.

Bringing this topic slightly up to date .. there's something very unusual about your car Peter .. on the red rose chip it was running so weak that I actually won't run it on my dyno under load, too risky! .. so putting a std chip back in it it made 377-380hp over several runs and the mixture is pretty even at lambda 0.8 That's right .. 380hp as std on the std 4.5 chip! It also makes peak hp at about 7000rpm Do you know anything about the spec of the engine 'cos I've never had a std 4.5 do this before.

Joolz,

It has had a rebuild to possibly RR spec, I can remember when the car was being bought and the question being asked about it. Here's the link -

Hope all is well with you.....

Ah well remembered Jules .. might have had a bit of extra work done, the car used to be owned by a TVR sprint championship entrant, wonder if he had the extra work done .. whatever .. it's a blinking powerful std 4.5 or a slightly lacklustre red rose so maybe had some high compression pistons but not the porting or vice versa. Looking good so far though smile

It wasnt owned by Matt Oakley then - it was owned by his friend James - who neglected to check it had oil in it and learnt a very expensive lesson! That very car had the sprint record at croft until very recently, since stickier tyres have been allowed, which is a compliment to both the Cerberas abilities (it was absolutely stock at the time) and the drivers (Matt Oakley is a legend/nutter, depending on how well you know him hehe)

I dont think James was the type to pursue extra work on things, but he certainly made sure it was maintained reguardless of cost after that... as his £6.5k+ bill can testify!! I'll have a word with Matt when I next see him and ask if James knows anymore - not sure if they're still in touch though as James emigrated a while back...

Now then, a better question;
Why cant I seem to fill my memory with more useful stuff??
