Well the the Cerb is heading off on another flat bed again the second time in two months, and the sixth time in two years. This time with another failed starter. The second one in two months. This latest set back could well be the final straw for me.I consider myself to be a dyed in the wool Cerb enthusiast. But with the latest mishap my patience has worn thin.I love the Cerb and the looks it gets, and for me nothing else really comes close, but i,ve had enough of the niggles.I might keep it.But only if i can find a big enough glass cabinet to put it in.I fear i,m Corvette bound, but i will miss this forum.I,ve met some genuinely nice people off of this forum, and two in particular MadMark and Arebrec who came to my aid during the summer when i needed a clutch to get me to FT.He spent all weekend doing it,with Tracey cleaning the car for me before i got it back. Its this sort of freindship i will miss,as i dont think you get this kind of camararderie on any other forum.

www.mk2cav.com perhaps ?

I've just sold my mk2 cavalier and wait to see if the friends I made in 4 years of membership remain my friends.

If you have a Cerb, then there is something a bit special about this place.IMHO.I forgot old T.C and Amazon who made a nice spread at FT.Doubt you would get that any where else.

I get this from time to time, but then I have a few months of trouble free motoring, and I want to keep it again.

An AA warranty would have covered that, but alas your car's over ten years old.

Do you use it as a daily runner, or is a second/weekend car ?

I try to use 2-3 times a week and at weekends. The longest ive ever left it in the garage was two weeks.Im a firm believer in regular use to keep the problems away. But i keep having the same ones re-occur.Mind you i,ve never had any of the electrical problems that most have suffered on here.Saying that,i will probably get these on its return.

We've all been there. I sold mine and bought the same one back 6 years later! Nothing will replace the Cerb though and sometime in the future you will want another. Sometimes it's better the devil you know. As Russ said, they are old cars and things will always be going wrong with them. You can either live with it or not. But as I say, you will want another one someday!

I had to resort to buying a spare, for when the other one's being fixed.

I'm surprised Tracey hasn't been on here twisting your arm back to sell it to her hehe

I know its still a pain but I trust you got the starter replaced / repaired under warranty? 2 months is short even by Cerb standards.

Don't sell you know you will regret it. frown
If you do then I'll let you come and wash mine for me every now and again hehe

The one i was having the trouble with Mark when i came over to yours was replaced on the 15th of september under warranty. The starter that replaced it failed this morning 26th October.Just over a month.Thats now four starters in just over two years. That C5 Corvette is looking ever more inviting.I know its no Cerb. But i think i will have peace of mind when im out in it.

at least you get to drive it now and again - since ive bought mine 4 months ago, ive only driven it

a) home from buying it
b) short test drive locally
c) to first garage for repairs
d) home from garage
e) to second garage for repairs, where its been last 3 months

finally, its time for me to pick it up today.

I pay the (huge of course) bill with card in advance over the phone to make sure there can be absolutely no chance of a problem with payment or anything when i make the train trip to pick her up.

I manage to put off some a few hours of my daytime work until nighttime tonight in order to be able to go and pick her up and finally have her for a weekend.

I pay the extortionate train company another £20 for the one way trip to collect her.

The train leaves, the phone rings - the garage - "we've just gone to pick up your car from our storage compound, and we can't get it out, some building works have started, theyve dug a big trench and theres no way we can get it out til monday or tuesday"

so im on a one way ticket on a fast train to nowhere. had to sort my way home and then start making up for the work time ive lost out on tonight.

gutted. I feel cursed.

cry Keep it Mark, don't leave us!

Your Cerb suits you sooooo much! I know it's annoying when they go wrong, but so much of the annoyance is cos' you can't drive it if it's sick - if you didn't love it so much, you wouldn't mind if it went wrong.

Do you need to talk? Ring me. We can sort this out! smile

I'm a complete outsider but there seems to be a recipe to keep a Cerbera healthy. How do they do it?

I refuse to believe there are good ones and bad ones. Regular maintainance?
