Well my intention was to go for a road legal slick, like the toyo r888 or yokohama a048, but after plenty of research and speaking with people in the know, I finally admitted to myself that I only really wanted the slicks for bragging rights/pub talk, and that in actual fact Im only likely to do 1 or 2 trackdays a year max, and mostly use the car on street, so the slicks would be a silly thing for me to do.

brian at camskill persuaded me to try the hankook rs2, he swears nothing will touch them as regards a street tyre. They were about £410 for the set as opposed to about £610 for r888s or the likes, and more suited for my application!

not overly excited by the brand, wouldn't have thought of them as a manufacturer of high performance tyres, but they're very keenly priced, and i see some good reviews about for them, so I'll let you know how I get on once they're fitted.

I've gone 215/35/18 on the front, and 235/40/18 on the back on 8j rims

Anyone else tried this tyre?

Tyres sizes seem wrong to me.
Standard fronts on a 4.2 16" rin is 225/45 and rears 245/45, while the 17" rims are 235/40 and 255/40. So your choice appears to be a bit on the 'skinny' side.

just how wide are the rims on the standard 17s? i thought 8j width of my new wheels was generous enough (and indeed I thought wider than OE), but seems most of the tyre spec sheets i read wouldnt recommend tyres wider than 235 or 245 on an 8j rim. so if people are running 255s on the back on standard 17s, they must have at least 8.5j or 9j width rims, and ill be damned if the original rims are that wide?! oh well, at least ill have less friction and drag holding back my top speeds smile

These tyres were fitted to my company Mundano when it was new & quite frankly they were shite! Worn fronts out in 10k miles, rears in 18k miles, normally get 30k out of a set of tyres on a Mondeo.I complained to Ford about them & they said they fitted them because they are cheap! Also had chronic torque steer from them.Certainly would never fit them on my Cerb!!!~sorry chap!

so which tyre manufacturers approve their tyres so that their 245 width tyres go on 16" 7.5js or that 255s go on 17" 8js?

Best bargain performance tyres are Falken FK452's...

Put these on the front -

http://www.falkentyres.co.uk/product.asp?numRecord...

and these on the rear -

http://www.falkentyres.co.uk/product.asp?numRecord...

That's £321.54 + £20 delivery, so all you need to then do is get a friendly tyre place / garage to fit them (£20-£30).

Jules.

Got to admit I'm running 452's at the moment and for road use I am very pleased with them, bags of grip and they control the wheel spin very well considering the Torque I can put through them yes. Not tried them a the limit of cornering (well not found it yet hehe) but have no reason to think they will be any worse tbh.

confused I'd like to add quick wearing on a heavy Eurobox doesn't necessarily mean crap tyres, it just means a softer compound which could be very good if you are looking for grip, not that I know these tyres.

confused The RS2's are a trackday compound so perhaps the mundayo had different tyres on confused

I have on my Cerbera the Hankook Ventus Tire K 104. Front Size: 225/35 ZR 18 and at the rear 255/35 ZR 18. I´m very happy with this tires. 5000 miles ago I put them on and until today they look like new. The handling an grip is very good even in the wet. The price was Euro 900,-- for 4 tires. I paid in Euro because I´m a German TVR Dirver.

Al - I found out the price of the carbon/kevlar wheels; I stand corrected, its about 8k for a set - not the 10k I quoted.. made by Dymag if you still want to persue them.

well that gives me some comfort, i have also in the past had basic hankook tyres on an old peugeot, and they were like soap, but im hoping theres a world of difference with this rs2 model

Eagle F1's for me all the way. It's just a shame they've changed tread pattern now.
