Reconditioned Cerb Chassis?
Discussion
Have you seen this, someone in the classifieds section on PistonHeads is advertising a reconditioning service, anyone used this service?
I wonder how many alignment problems you would have mounting your body on a different chassis?

the geometry alignment of the suspension will all have to be redone anyway as all the wishbones will have to come off, the holes in the body wont be far away, you might have to just poke a drill through one or two, if you do a finger check on the arch gaps on differant cars you will probably find no two the same. The Cerbera does not have loads of packing under each mount point like a Wedge, thank god. So they must have got a bit more consistant as time drew on!

Wondered where that went was looking fo that ad for ages but couldn't find it.
Bit of a bugger they want yours back right away.
Also what about chassis number hassles with the DVLA....
Did they sayhow much the stipping and repainting was?
A friend of mine has redone his Griff and he says 1.5 - 1.8k will get the chassis redone, all the nice new bits thats needed to do the jobBit of a bugger they want yours back right away.

if and when it's need. That saves 1k. Cost is less but it take a little longer but I can think of something else I could spend that saving on!
You lot talking about me again !
It's me thats selling the chassis, and yes, I will want your old one back, but will get £400 for it. That way I can repeat the process, so there will always be a chassis available for those unfortunate enough to ever need one.
I also have a full set of wishbones, all new and white and shiny, complete with new powerflex Poly bushes if anyone is interested (plus new Gearbox, Engine and Diff mounting brackets)
bear in mind that this way you can take your old chassis off on Monday, and fit the new one on Tuesday - no lengthy off road time.

I'm not really doing this as a Business Venture, I'd need to do 40 a year to make a living. I'm doing it more as a Cerb enthusiast, and hopefully make a few bob towards the cost of a service
But importantly there will always be a spare chassis available for one of us, I'll get them refurbed properly - thats important, any chassis you get back from a powder coating will look nice and pretty, but just how good is it??
When I originally got this one done it ended up costing me twice the original quote, and it took nearly 3 months - thats no crticism of the company that did it, it just seems to be the way things go, just the logistics of synchronising/scheduling everything. eg the chassis has to be stripped of the 'crap', scheduled in and deliverd to the shotblasters, where it can only be shotblasted when the powder coating people are ready for it (don't want it sitting around in the rain for 2 weeks before they can do it do we?) etc etc etc. And If it happens to me it can happen to any of us.
I've been thinking it might be better to sell it complete with all the Wishbones - ie a completely new Rolling chassis - whats your views?

Just a question for JensenA:
That advert in the classifieds, the link is still valid but the advert is no longer in the active list >is it there still going to be Cerbera chassis available? Or has there been a change in circumstances?
Just very interested as it could help me toward getting a Cerb restored.
Regards
Rob

I was curious as well the DVLA has information that maybe relevant.
DVLA Links below!
Main link
Radiclly altered vehicle
Rebuilt/Kit car or "kit conversion"
I put these links in another post, they are from the dvla for guidance. I think the fitting of a new/refurbished chassis would come under the Rebuilt link (please correct me if I am wrong!).
Trouble is, from the way that I read the page, that according to the DVLA repair/ rebuilt with a secondhand chassis would mean you would need to re-register after an ESVA test and you would then get a Q plate.
But this depends on exactly what the chassis that is being sold counts as, if its vin number comes from another car then that would complicate matters, maybe if JensenA could tell some information about the chassis it might clear things up alittle.
Ideally if the chassis is refurbed to new and nolonger has an ID number then given a sufficent evidence that chassis is new (which it would be) then the DVLA should be allow you to keep the cars registration number.
If someone who has done something like this could post about what they had to do it might clear things up.
Rob.

That's if you declare it of course. The VIN number isn't stamped anywhere on the chassis I believe, only on a plate which is fixed to the fibreglass body.Edited by eLSerbera on Saturday 1st December 11:44

What with that and the lenient MOT emission pass levels we're allowed.Gassing Station | Cerbera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
