All the best Ray with the Cobra adventure.

Yet another top spec high powered Cerb gets sold. Hope it has gone to an enthusiast for a good price.

Hi there Julian,
We did converse briefly on this subject last year , I'm looking at all the options (had a look yesterday at the GD car that was at fighting torque).
Really its a case of what you are driving cobra wise . I think you did tell me it was a stroker motor, but what manufacturer and have you compared it to any others.
(I can see myself getting a bit carried away here, to build the GD with over 400 hp with euro chassis is not a kick in the arse off 40k).

Regards
Ray

Mines a RAM cobra, with a 350 chevy engine bored out to 6 litres. A heavily unstressed engine with the original iron head on and a 700c Holley twin Carb on top, mated to a muncie four speed manual gearbox. I can go from 10mph to 120mph without changing gear.

Was once told that you could double the HP for £1000, but never wanted to do so. Its not much competition to the Cerb though even at quite high power levels.

Ram (although not produced anymore) seems to be superior in build quality to most of the Dax stuff you see, with a nice wide central tunnel, and some decent bracing on the frame.

But remember all these kits with the exception of GD are bog standard ladder frame chassis. Pretty much all american engined Cobra derivative cars I've driven have been very similar to drive, apart from hawk, which was truly awful, and undeserving of the reputation it got from a certain TV program, and the racing GD I tried which was at the other end of the scale, and the one car I think would give the Cerb a run round a track.

Go GD if you can. Don't buy anthing with a rover engine in it, ignore anyone who says anything about authenticity, and don't buy a hawk. Go to stonleigh in may and blag some rides. Other than that they're all very similar but avoid on how naff the switchgear is.

Thanks for that Julian ,good to get opinion from somebody who can give honest opinion on both cars. I love the cerb but need to live out my schoolboy fantasy.
Going out out in GD euro chassis'd car on monday with LS motor at 420hp,
I believe it is the one that was running 25.3 ish at fighting torque.
Also going out in SL55 amg in about an hours time but the cobra will stay on the list.
Thanks again
Ray

That one's got me thinking Jules.

Why are people going to the trouble of getting them up to 400 brake, then getting shot of them afterwards ?

Because they have family commitments (Cyclone) fancy something different for a bit (Rpicker) move to dubai (NitroC) or actually I cant think of anyone else who has sold up in the 400club right now...

Honestly Russ, get your 4.5 mapped/inductioned if you can - the difference is astonishing - its still an absolute beast, but the throttle pick up is massively improved, the lower rpm is much much smoother and it has the kind of power/torque to really really scare the big supercar players still, as we've proved in competition. smile

I'd offer for you to try ours but its currently at TCS/ its dads call... I reckon Joo will probably let you try before you buy as he offered for Julian64 a while back too - worth asking atleast?! I cant see you wanting to go back to standard afterwards...

My reasons for selling up were as follows:

Start a family - Done that onebiggrin
Buy an additional property - Done that alsobiggrin

Unbeknown to me at the time but I have also changed jobs (in May) so at this point the Cerb would have definitely been sold, as I now do a fair few miles travelling around the country as well as abroad.

What I was getting at was more a case of the fact that the "Well sorted, high sepc modded / upgraded cars" appear to sell with no real problem at a fair premium to the standard cars. I wasn't trying to say that owners of cars with 400bhp are getting rid of them for other negative reasons.

Jules.

Mines sat in the garage waiting to be picked up.
Its frustrating has I dont really feel I should be using someone elses car and it still looks has good has the day I purchased it.
The mods are well worth while, they transformed the car into a smooth rev monster.
Just been out in a SL55 amg about two hours ago , lovely sound although a bit quiet for me ( they didnt want me to switch of the traction control for some reason).
Didnt give me goose pimples, whereas the cerbera still can after all this time.
I am looking at possible purchase of a late Cerb by the way if your wondering what the hell I am doing getting rid of it.
Maybe I'm just cracking up.
