Problems installing clutch
Discussion
Hi all, my mechanic is having problems installing a Raceproved clutch and slave in my '99 4.5, and I'm wondering if anyone can help.
Everything is in, but despite the pedal feeling as if its doing something, its not declutching fully.
It seems to be declutching slightly; with the pedal down to the floor you can sometimes just about get it into gear, but almost impossible with the engine running.
He thinks its bled properly - can anyone offer any advice please?
This guy is an excellent mechanic, has done one TVR clutch before, on a 4.2 (mine) which he also had problems with, but different ones!
Any ideas appreciated - thanks.
Andy.

Have you got Mad Marks guide?
It's on his site somewhere but I've shamelessly nicked it to add to the library.

OK. I've got a similar problem with the LS1 Cerbera at the moment. I can get 1-4th but reverse is tricky. Gone through most things and think it is a bedding in issue right now. Everything else has been replaced.
If the clutch will not fully declutch then:
1. Not enough throw so that the release bearing is not pushing the clutch fingers far enough. I made a small packing ring between the slave and the release bearing to improve this on mine.
2. Too much throw so that the fingers are catching on the flywheel bolts. Try using the clutch without pushing it too the floor. If this works, then adjust the pedal appropriately.
3. Pedal is not set up so that the full clutch movement is not obtained. Adjust and try again.
4. Internal bolts catching on the bell housing. The flywheel bolts and the clutch mounting bolts are good examples.
5. High spots on the clutch plate/flywheel. The clutches can take 50 miles in some cases to bed in and stop catching. In some cases, the flywheel may need skimming.
6. Misalignment between the clutch/bellhousing and flywheel.
7. Slave position not correct so that it cannot be bleed correctly.
8. Faulty master cylinder not pushing fluid. Can happen so that it doesn't leak but simply moves the fluid internally.
9. Leaking slave cylinder. Low fluid and leaks are the giveaway here.
Talk to Keith at Clevor Trevor. He is extremely helpful.
