Hi folks,
having just sold my beloved Elise, I'm looking at defecting to the TVR camp
Just a couple of questions that I can't seem to find clear answers to on searches:
I did quite a lot of regular mainatinence myself on the Elise and would tackle most things that were needed. This was made easier by the availability of original manuals - not quite Haynes standard but do they exist for the Cerbera (4.2)?
Is the car so difficult to work on that I wouldn't want to bother with the above!
I would be looking at using the car only occasionally, do they tend to suffer from standing (in a garage)?
I know that the chassis can suffer from rot, does this tend to be visible on inpection or do they go from the inside out...
Finally, any recommended technical links would be most welcome.
Many thanks.

Cerbs are not at all difficult to work on - in fact, quite the opposite. Because they are effectively a hand built car, they come apart like mechano! Despite the mistique they are mechanicaly quite straightforward.
PH member, Byker28i, has done a great job of collating all the workshop manuals manuals, wiring diagrams etc on his website here so a lot of quality technical information is available.
Like all cars they do benefit from regular use and probably suffer from inactivity more than most.
The chassis on mine was starting to rot from the outside, where the original powder coating was flaking. In my case fairly easy to see and rectify, but it can be hard to get at to inspect without a ramp.

The Cerb' AJP8 is a very differnt beast to the Rover K series that powered the first generation Elises, but having said that most things are possible.
There seems to be a growing number of suppliers, since the 'demise' of TVR, who are offering their services, for either parts of spanner time.
Don't expect the Cerb' to be as straight forward as the Elise, read through this forum, go into purchase with your eyes wide open and you won't be dissapointed.
I've had two Mk1 Elises and would dearly love another, but they don't compare to the Cerb' even though on the twisties I think they were quicker, or at least one was!
Good luck
Tim

Thanks for all your help folks - I've just got to keep looking for the right one now...
Mate, come and check mine out... It has a few issues that aren't made of frightmares and I'll give you a completely transparent sale… Had a full inspection done by TVR Henley recently that covered every nut and bolt…£2k just spent, on brakes (new master cylinder, braided hoses, replacement of dodgy brake lines etc., a couple of electrical issues, replacement Spider etc.) and it’s back in there now for a new Alarm!!!
Price is about to be dropped accordingly! Give me a shout if you’re interested…
I took it on as a long term project to put right over time, but best laid plans, more racing comitments for 2008 and a recent un-planned Maserati purchase is leading to me needing to sell...
