Which fuel ?

For a 4.2, should it be Optimax, Sul or plain unleaded ?

I'm using 97 to see how I get on, but Optimax would give the best results.

Best not to use 95.

Absolutely !

Strictly speaking we (us "early" 4.2 drivers) should be using 98RON fuel (as the sticker says by the filler neck), but as no-where has sold it for years, Super is the norm. Some people swear by Optimax, but I can't really notice any difference in our car.

Erm, Optimax is 98RON.

I've used it for a while, it's same price as SUL (or even cheaper sometimes) Engine seems to run a bit smoother and no pinking whatsoever.

Q8 do 98 octane - found out the other day - but then how many Q8 garages do you see!

I didn't think it had been proven ? Oh well, I've been wrong in the past !

Q8 sell 98 super, well at least that's what it says on the pump, but I guess they are not the most numerous of petrol stations!

I tend to use Optimax, which I thought was supposed to be 99 octane or something??

Two bonuses of living over in Dusseldorf is having the AutoBahns to play with Porkers and Shell having V-Power which is 100 Ron

I've been led to believe that the higher the octane rating the cooler the engine runs Which I guess is good for AJP's!

I wonder when shell will bring V-Power across to the UK....
