Looking forward to my first trackday at Oulton tomorrow, drove up from Cornwall to stay in the midlands last night, drive up all goes fine, turn to pull into the carpark and steering feels VERY heavy.

Looks like the p/s pumps gone and eaten itself cry

Waiting for AA to tow it down to Dulford.

Plan B: Back to Cornwall, pick up the M3, get a couple of sets of spare pads from gsf and see how it handles the track completely standard.

Whats the best route for the p/s pump, replace with engine driven or change to an electric one? pros/cons of each?

Mine went about 18 months ago and I replaced it with an electric one (Citroen Saxo). There are a few threads about this. The mechanical one can be fixed, what happens is the woodruff key is a little bit undersized on the earlier cars and sometimes shears. You may well be able to remove the mechanical pump and replace this, for about 50p and some skinned knuckles.

I had to undo the engine mounts to remove the old PAS pump, but it is possible to do this without taking the engine out.

I'd have carried on. Steering is fine when moving. It's only low speed where it becomes an issue.

I wondered about that when mine went. Its pretty heavy without assistance. One thing I thought of was to use the rack from the speed 6 which has an extra half turn or so lock-to-lock.

No but I have converted my LS Cerbera to electric PAS and have a prototype variable assistance module that goes with it to either reduce the assistance or by speed.
