I've seen a few little short silencers on ebay being flogged which clamp on to the exhausts to reduce the noise level for trackdays - has anyone used them? do they do what they say on the tin? if so, Id best find myself some during the week :|

Just look out for fit, and whether they rub or bounce on to the bodywork. Some of them are quite short and stubby, and can rub on the rear valance...

Tim, a question for you. I visited Oulton Park on Friday for my first track day in my newly purchased 4.2 Cerb with cats and sports exhaust fitted, and couldn`t get on due to registering 108 dab on the meter. What would I expect to see with ACT`s silencers fitted? I would expect it to drop it below Oulton`s 105 limit, but would it take it down to 98dab or below which seems to be the limit on a lot of the countrys circuits?
P.s. Had to passenger in my mates Sagaris most of the day, he even let me have a go, cheers Graham, very quick and grippy car, with some sticky tires, we even managed to hang on to a Radical for a few laps.

i was wondering if you were a PHer.(very nice Cerb btw)

I was in the blue E30 M3, as my Cerb decided not to play on the Thursday frown My mate had a chat with you I think.

Mine has linked de-cats and exactly the same sports pipes as yours and with the track silencers was 103-4 db @ 4000rpm. What were they making you rev to? I had to hold the M3 @ 5200rpmeek.

I have a set in the garage, only used once.
If you fancy a test before buying mail me, I don't need them as I have the SP backbox.
Maybe for sale if you need, they are the ACT ones.
Nick.

Hey Nick

What do you have up front exhaust wise to complement the SP back box?

(PS Sorry for hijacking the subject)

Apart from the price(!) what's the difference between the linked decats supplied by SP and one from say TCS?

1. Quality
2. They're designed as part of the full SP System

I've seen Alan's SP system and it sounds great and is a really good fit.

I've got the ACT trackday silencers and I've lent them out when I've got through the limit. On my car they've knocked it from 106db to under 98db.

I lent them out at Brands and they dropped another car from something like 112/114db to under 105db.
