Not the Cerb, my trusty and loved old Honda - Great car if anyone wants a good 2nd car for Winter, but what do you make of this, Am I getting too paranoid......

I've just had a call from a guy in Manchester, who said his mate had asked him to ring and ask about the car.
5 mins later he rings back and says "If he come and pick it up tomorrow, will you take £1500? - I said OK.
5 minutes later Gavin from Dublin rings, says he cant get a flight tomorrow, but if he pays a 10% deposit will I hold the car until Saturday.
A bit of humming and haaing on how to pay the deposit from Dublin, we decide on Bank Transfer - I give him my Bank Sort code and A/C number.
paranoia is now setting in - Does this sound fishy?

I get lots of people from Ireland buying cars off me, as they are cheaper over here, so there is probably nothing to worry about.

As your bank says, he can only pay money in, but you've been "greedy" to do the sale and perhaps given away too much information. If he were a fraudster, he could now use your bank and address details to apply for a credit card etc.

If this sort of thing happens to anybody else, rather than taking a deposit to hold the car for a few days, you could either take him at his word as most people are genuine; or asked him to forward his e-mail flight confirmation. Although you've got no money to hold the car, you at least know he has paid for a flight so is more likely genuine.
