well its my second day of ownership & i have a problem, let TVR ownership begin!
when driving there is a clicking from the passenger side of the car, its proportional to speed, sounds a bit like a CV joint, but i think (hard to tell over the exhuast noise!) that its coming from the rear.
Any ideas people?

I'm guessing it's the brakes.

Does it disappear if you dab the brakes ?

I had something like this although it was more like a squeek, I got it after I replaced my shocks, basically I didnt tighten the bolts while under load (did them with wheels off the ground). COuld be worth a quick loosen and tighten (only 2 bolts per corner).

Try driving and leave your girlfriend/wife at home - I had a similar problem in the Griff - this seemed to cure it...

For the benefit of the new owner, and using engineer's speak, this sound can also manifest itself as a whine, shriek, moan, or at lower speeds a tut.

Also when travelling with kids in the back you will often hear what can best be described as a giggle. Always goes when they are not there so I suspect it is the seat mounts or somesuch....i don;t know these TVR's and their build quality.

Its probably a rear brake pad moving in the caliper. VERY common, you can even buy sticky pads to combat it from most tvr parts people.

Its clicking with every wheel rotation, so i dont think its something like that, but thanks for the ideas! keep them coming

Did it manifest itself on the test drive? If it's anything serious then I wouldn't hesitate in taking it back and ask for your money back....i'm sure they'll manage to sell it again! wink

I would say pads as well. The springs on the split pins loose there tension over time causing the pads to rattle.

ok, well after driving about most this week the pads are doing my head in, and make a awfull noise that is very audable outside the car, whats the best way of me stoping it? do i need to replace the retaining spring? or will some good old copper grease sort it out?

Try getting a spring for the split pins. But the easiest way,is just to apply some silicon to the back of the pad.

As an aside, I've had a "girlfriend's squeeky earing" incident in the past - an odd intermittant ticking sound from around the gear selector area, but every time I went looking for it it disappeared. You know, one of those things that's quite faint and you only notice it just as its disappearing, and you can never quite pin it down... then it dawned on me one very cold morning, when I was very concious on my hand on the gearstick that it was my ring tapping on the ali gearnob rolleyes. And I'm alarmed to say it's not the stupidest mistake I've ever made.

Do a search on here for rattling brake pads. Some people swear by siliconing in the pads, but only apply a really light amount else they are a bugger to get out again.
