Had my rattling CATs replaced with a linked Decat yesterday.... What can I say but "Oh My Word" thumbup

Coupled to my Sports pipes, she sounds like a Spitfire and goes like absolute stink. The difference in the power is absolutely amazing - all up the rev range - especially above 4k. I had a problem just keeping up with my mates T350 before, let alone passing him, but now he won't see me for dust!

One of my CATs was blocked so this obviously wasn't helping, but what a difference. She's a little more frisky especially going on and off hard throttle, and a little grumpy low down, but the extra power is bike performance.

If you can live with the noise, I'd recommend it to everyone.

He always says that! rolleyes

I have the same combination - at the moment - and for exactly the same reason - but it is montrously loud and I've been informed that it happily shoots flames now too! yikes

AND - quite a strong smell of petrol (?) (sorry TC - bit girly that one redface)

A few questions regarding this type of mod.

Will there be any noticable difference by fitting decats to a car with a standard back box in performance & sound?

What differences are there between seperate and linked types of decat pipes, in the sound/performance?

Will a car with decats and standard back box pass an MOT?

Does the car need remapping after fitting decats?

Approx cost of decats?

Sorry for all the questions it's just a mod I had in mind for the winter.

Regards
Simon.

Yes. Mine too. Windows up and no smell, even with hot and/or cold air blowing.
Window down (the best way to listen to the soundtrack) and strong smell of burnt petrol. I had put it down to the new pipes and was going to see if it went after a week or so. Must be all the unburnt fuel burning in the new pipes??

I'm no expert, but it will be louder. Also, the concensus is that sports pipes rob performance - more so than standard. So I'd expect a performance gain too.

TCS??

Doubt it. Keep your CATs for MOT time.

Not necessarily although again it would probably benefit. I'm going to see how I get on with mine. As I said, she's a bit more frisky going on and off the throttle at high revs. So you need to be careful mid corner.

Supplied and fitted with VAT was no more than £250.

If yours turns out like mine, then you will not be dissapointed. OK I had a blocked CAT, but mates that have driven my car (with the blocked CAT) said it went like sh*t off a shovel. Personally I felt she struggled at high revs with wide throttle openings. Keeping it smooth was ok. But now!! I cannot stress how much faster she goes - defo more aggressive as well.

Interesting to compare notes, I don't notice a petrol smell when I'm driving (nearly always with window open!), it's more when I go to the car after it's been standing, which is why I can live with it - for now! wink

Curiously enough, I actually got on the Ring with it too! hehe Whereas with CATS I was forced to put silencers on tongue out
