Someone my correct me, but I didn't think there was a tensioner on the chain, just nylon slipper pads to support it. When the chain and pulleys are all together the chain is pulled fairly tight so just needs support on the long lengths. Maybe I'm just talking rubbish though!smile

I've been wondering about the chain's tension recently (after having one break earlier this year). All I could find in the AJP rebuild manual was a bit where the tension of the chain was checked through the oil filler hole (after taking off the elbow). The tension was checked using a 12" screwdriver as a lever. Didn't seem very scientific and didn't say what to do if it was too loose or too tight! Would like to know more!

Its a big bolt on the side of the timing chain cover on the oil filler side... it should be safety wired. it uses shims on the end of the bolt to adjust the tension of the chain. Not sure how to do it, but at least you know where it is.

On the bolt as above. Has to be loosened to get the cam cog off, without removing the chain from the cog.

Tightening it is simply a torque spec.
