Can anyone help me out?
Since coming back from NZ, The steering feels much, much heavier than it did when I left. So no I'm fearing the worst. Dreading woodruff key. I'm told it an engine out job to fix.
I seem to remember a thread a while back about fitting electric power steering from a Citroen Saxo.
Has anyone fitted one?
Would the woodruff key need to be fixed?
How does it work?
any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The woodruff key is likely to be the culprit, especially on a 98 or earlier car, when they were a bit undersized.

I used a Citroen Saxo pump to replace mine, the hoses fit straight on.

The mechanical PAS pump can be removed with the engine in place, I took mine off as it was no longer needed. You could also replace the woodruff key this way. I had to undo the drivers side engine mount and move the engine slightly with a jack, but that was about it.

There are a few threads on here with pictures of other people's electric conversion.

Fitted it to mine.

Relatively simple job tbh.

Hardest bit was connecting up the resevoir. Check my posts for details.
