Bedford Autodrome
Discussion
Has anyone done the Bedford Autodrome 3.6mile Gran Turismo circuit in a Cerbera?
Thinking of doing a day there at some stage like this:
Track Day (GT circuit)

Done it my Griff 500 excellent - what do you want to know? Rich... www.greenbear.org.uk/Bedford.htm
Hi Rich
Nice page and good to see Cerbera there too.
I can't make the August date they have, but wanted
to do this in the future, but was concerned about the
noise restrictions?
Also did you do any mods as it's a long circuit?
Do you recall the lap times for the Griff and the Cerbera?
Cheers!

Hi Washy
Thanks for that.
Well I'm currently in the country on the 26th,
but is this on the full circuit?
Also is it £245.00 or £225 (gives both prices?)
Still worried about the db as I have Sports Exhausts
and the cats are off?

Yep it's on the full circuit. A mate has a very loud Griff which fails the static test badly, passed the drive by test though. Mine went to 107db on standard exhaust static but past drive by easily. Beford are strict on noise though and with no cats and sports pipes you are going to struggle at a lot of circuits!

Why does the length of the circuit make any difference to the car? You just end up doing less laps in a timed session. Go easy on the brakes and you should be fine there.
You can easily fail the drive by at bedford with sports exhausts - I did (was driving the topcats race tuscan mainly, so didn't care too much). Make sure you bring Cerbie effective silencers!

PS Lap timing is banned at trackdays - if they catch you, you'll most likely be on your way home. You're also potentially invalidating everyone's insurance. Just have some fun instead, if it's your first time out there, get some instruction too - will make you much faster, safer and have more fun.

So, anyone here going to be at Bedford on 26 July or 2 August? I'll be at both assuming I don't break the car this weekend!
Washy
I want to do some work on my car before I track day it
and I also have a trip to Scotland the following week
when I get back from Sweden, so best not take any risks!

Graham - I just spoke to RMA. Yes you can spectate at no cost but they'd prefer you to attend a safety briefing first (the last one is at 10:30). If you want to try and blag passenger rides it'll cost you £25 for the day plus you'll need to sign their T&C's. I'm happy to take you round for a few laps too if you're interested. Best to bring your own lid but you can hire them if necessary.

Thanks Washy, I might just do that.
Work and family permitting I'll be in touch.
Cheers!

Whens the next Bedford Autodrome day then (late august onwards)??
I have a license and the keys to the Cerbera, I WANT TO PLAY!!!!
Sadly I think the last Bedford track day is August 2nd.
If anyone knows of a later one, I'd love to know.

RMA have dates in the calendar for 20 September, 18 October and 22 November for BA. I think they have a monopoly on track days at Bedford. Palmersport themselves seem to be the only other folk running days there but these are generally joint events run with Autocar magazine with the exception of 2 August.
Graham, you know you want to come down on Saturday!!

) It would also give me a chance to see how far over the
noise limit my car is and what I'd need to do to be allowed to do a future date there.
Thanks also for the other dates, there is hope for me for this year!

Don Palmer, who runs a driver coaching school at Bruntingthorpe raves about Bedford - particularly those days organised by RMA.
I was there in June and will be going again on 20 September. In June I was one of two TVRs the other being a tuscan S - I have an unmodified Cerbera Speed Six.
Facilities and organisation are great with plenty of track time. June was characterised by great weather and some intersting characters and a pleasing absence of wide boys.
Lots of porsche and catefields, elises a ferrari 360 and a murcialago.
For those that haven't driven there, RMA tend to operate the full circuit ( 4 miles or so ) so its never very crowded. The circuit is a bit flat, being an ex airfield but has a good mix of corners and a top gear back straight which allows you to reach around 135 in a speed six and I guess a fair bit more in a V8.
There are some excellent 3 gear corners and plenty of scope for sideways travel with the comfort of large run-off areas.
For sideways travel though you should visit Don Palmer at Bruntingthorpe - you will not believe the fun to be had.
