Brake problems
Discussion
Hi all,
I have just had my 98' 4.2 back from having the big service. When it went in it had various additional work done. Part of this included pads all round. Since its been back it has developed big shaking and slight pull to one side when braking from speed and also a tapping noise when not under braking from the rear.
I think it could be warped discs but it seems strange that before the service the brakes were fine. Surely if the brake discs were that bad I would have noticed before the new pads went on.
Any advice appreciated,
Ed

It's a doddle to check for debris on the flange.
Wheel off.
Caliper off (2 x bolts opened with an 8mm allen key), just be careful with the pipes.
Pull the disc off.
Check for debris.
I've had a similar problem for months and have been doing a lot of work on the front of my car.
I've just fitted new Powerflex bushings and replaced the bolts at the same time.
While doing this work I discovered one of the old bolts to be bent and another one worn along it's length.
The new bolts, along with the Powerflex bits, were a huge improvement on my car.
Were any bolts replaced on your car?
If so, were the new ones the correct size (they are Imperial, not metric)?
Also is everything in the suspension tight?
I do have warped discs but they now only show up as pedal-bounce, and not juddering, since I fitted the new bits.
Just a few things for you to check.

Thanks for that, i'm not sure about bolts being replaced but if they were I would think that they would be correct as it has been with Ian at Torque RVT and he seems s**t hot when it comes to all things TVR, the only trouble is getting hold of him as he is a very busy chap.
I'll have a look at the things you suggested, fingers crossed it might be a nice easy fix.
Thanks again,
Ed

Ed - tapping from the back will be the pads rattling in the caliper - mines just started doing this again. Quick and easy fix is to whip out the pads and apply some silicone sealant to the rear of the pads so they stick to the pistons - will do mine next weekend probably.
ETA - Rest a stone or a piece of wood onto the brake pedal after you've done it for a while so the sealant goes off sufficiently well to make a good seal with the pad and piston.
