I was pootling along the M61 yesterday morning at 70mph and almost didn't notice the police Range Rover in the left hand lane until I'd nearly passed him. I had that momentary panic of "OMG what sped am I doing?" and although I was spot on 70, I still lifted off the throttle momentarily with the panic.

Yes, you guessed it.

Big crackle-pop-bangs.

Awesome noise. Impeccable delivery. Awful timing.

Fortunately nothing came of it (maybe it was a petrolhead police officer..?), but it made me wonder whether anyone's been pulled for the noise or flames from their exhaust?

what would be the charge orrificer?

I think someone got pulled for a exhaust on here, can't remember who though. Got taken down for an immediate MOT which they failed and they got done for that, but I may have dreamed all this my head is a bit messed up at the moment.

Not in the three years I've driven the Cerb.

In fact, I'm beginning to think that it's invisible to law enforcement officers, as they never give it a second glance!

Years ago I got stopped for "sounding like I was going too fast". The BiB jumped out and flagged me down and jumped in with "Do you know what the speed limit is along here 'Sir', and how fast were you going?". Then glanced down at the speed gun and saw it reading 25 mph. Oh, never mind, just don't do it again. I never did work out quite what I wasn't supposed to do again.hehe

Similar thing happened to me in my old Griff a few years back. Progress was being hampered by Mrs Old Fogey in her Nissan Micra so I was following her in second gear at 4k rpm or so. The BiB lept out from the bushes with his speed gun in one hand, other hand up to stop me...then he did a double take of the speed reading and waved me on hehe

Dad got pulled over by the police for "sounding fast" rolleyes told him to watch his speed whilst presumeably looking over the side number holders with "Toyo Tyres Midland Speed Championship" written on it.

Sounds about right. Surely only a matter of time before they try to come down hard on decatted cars?

IIRC the relevant section of the law on noise does not specify a Db limit, but rather relies on the phrase "significantly louder than standard". I've not had a problem, but if questioned, I'd shrug and say "it's a TVR, they made them that way".

Went through Hereford and stopped at a set of lights in the cerb when a police van turned up next to me. Guy in the passenger seat wound down the window and commented on how nice it sounded. Lights turn green, after a few bootfulls I dropped the clutch. Will never know what they thought after that laugh

Wasn't there a period last year when some insurers were unilaterally withdrawing cover for decatted cars on the grounds that they were no longer roadworthy?

Been worrying about this myself since fitting the ACT non silenced system, and have tried to perfect the, 'keeping it quiet' driving style incase the Police come up behind me. Needless to say, impossible. I can't help thinking that they won't take an interest because its a TVR. Whos to say its not meant to sound like that?

My best mate was a TVR technician in the day, and was sent in a Cerb demo car with a LOUD exhaust to a woman who had locked her baby in a TVR and couldn't get in. He was told to get there quick as the police were there, and on arriving with masses of pops and bangs, was greated with nothing worse than a frown!
