This is a bit of a long shot I know, but it cant hurt to ask.

I bought some decats for my 4.2 on ebay. The add said they were suitable for 4.2's and 4.5's, but it seems as if they're only good for 4.5's, as they have female flanges on both ends, whereas my car needs male on one side and female on the other.

So... is there by any chance anyone out there that has fallen into the same trap, and ended up with decats for a 4.2 when they need ones for a 4.5? If so, then I would be happy to do a swap!

Regards, Rob.

The other end needs a donut style sealer to go between the 2 female flanged parts of the decat pipe and the main exhaust.

Aaaaaaahh... thanks ridds. Seems strange that its not just fitted with a male flange though, but I guess it does make the decats universal.

So where can I get one of these donuts? [mmmmmmm.....donuts augghhhhhh.]

jetex dont seem to sell anything like that, and they're normally quite good for that kind of thing.

The cats are the same except for the length. The 4.5 cats are 1.5 inches longer. Only found out when I had to replace the rear section of the exhaust, offered it up and had a gap!!!

Interesting. There wasn't perhaps a change during the production of the car?

If not, then I'm stuck with a set of dectas that might be of little use to anybody. That is unless I can get hold of this donut thingie.

Loads of cars have this type of sealing ring on the exhaust, it would be just a matter of matching the pipe size and shape.
If you could take your cat to a local motor factors they should have them in stock. Hope you find some.

You're in Edinburgh, right?

There's a place (forget the name right now) on Harry Lauder road that supplies exhaust pieces to people like Kwikfit. They do the "donut" pieces - I got them there before when making up some decat pipes for some old Saabs.
If you head out East from the Portabello roundabout at the end of Seafield Rd, its in the industrial estate on the right about half a mile down.
Oh, and don't forget to smile sweetly, as they're not supposed to sell directly to the general public.

Edit: found them - they're called Silencer Distributors and their number is 0131-657 9303
