Hello all...

Looking to get a whole new set of rubber.

Definitely going for Toyos this time, so can anyone recommend which ones?

Cheers

T1-R is the way forward. Think the T1-S is discontinued/in the process of being.

T1-R are very good, P james uses them on II Zero all the time, road and track...and he's fairly quick!

R888s are my fave...ulimate grip for the track and Ok on the road. Don't like the very cold/very wet but fine otherwise. i put a set on a GTF at oulton in the Tuscan Challenge last year, and it was only 1 sec off its Slick race pace! see here http://www.tvrmonster.co.uk/newstoyo.html

So if you use the car on the Track alot...its R888s

If its a road only car occasional track...its T1Rs

either way, excellent tyres and good value.

Ok so like the look of the R888...

However at the moment have 225 35 ZR18 on the front and 255 35 ZR 18 on the rear.

Having looked at the TOYOS it seems that they have 255 35 but not 225 35 they only have 225 40 - what gives?

My 888's are 225x40x18 front, & 245x40x18 rear. I could'nt get away with any wider on the back as they rub under hard cornering.

The EVO big tyre test came out with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics substantially on top.

T1-Rs are excellent, going to have to go with 888's next though.

I've got 225/40/18's on the front and 255/35/18's on the rear, all R888, on spiders with the 42 front/33 rear offsets. The rears do rub the outer arches on hard cornering, but I'm switching to compomotive MO 6's next month and will adjust the offsets of the wheels to cure this. Walking around the PH/Autosport show last weekend it seems the R888 is really 'the tyre' at the moment, so many cars were fitted with them.

I'm on T1-Rs at the moment and they're my second set (not on the cerb). I reckon give maybe 5-10% in ultimate grip to the goodyear F1s (not the asymetricos), but they are so much more communicative and predictable - hence the repeat purchase!

Once the scotish weather sorts itself out a bit and I've had a decent amount of wear out of the current set, I think I'll give the 888s a try (just a little nervous about aquaplaning on motorways trips avec famile).

I have T1R's 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rears.

I did have the Goodyears but didn't like the look of them on the car or the way they felt. Personal preference is a big thing though.

Same here. I've gone from T1-Ss to T1-Rs and I'm very pleased with Toyos - although when you get down to 3 or 4mm they do start going off rather quickly. The drop in grip is very noticable. I don't do large miles, so it's 888s for me next time.

Hello Andy

Have you been given a date for release? How many miles do you think they will do compared with the 888's?

Hi,

I've only been told "the summer" so its likely to be Sept time. We have access to Motorsport stock, so we should be one of the first to get them.

as far as wear goes, Toyo have always been excellent, its one of their strengths. I would still excpect them to achieve around 4000miles with a trackday or two, or 6000+.

we'll do some comparisons, but they look great...can't wait.

cheers

And there was me thinking the grip of the 888's with the life of a Michelin endurance...

How does having different wall size affect the handling/ride if any - just seems a bit odd to have 40mm on the front and 35mm on the back!

The 40 and 35 denote the wall height as a percentage of the tyre width, not the wall height in mm.
