have undone the centre bolt and the wheel will not pull off, am i missing something?

No - provided that big central nut (the one you use a 17mm socket on hs been removed) give the wheel some some good hard thumps from behind, and be prepared for 3 miles of Ribbon cable to come spiralling out.

And don't smack yourself in the teeth!

Best bet to leave the centre nut on a turn or two.

Got wheel off, ribbons ok . fault proving into steering wheel functions control unit .Is there anyone who can repair it or if not are there new ones available.

Not easily repaired as they are all solid state. I blew one last week and got a replacement for Bellhilgarage.com for a very reasonable £35.00 plus VAT & delivery. They are breakers, so do not know if they have any more on the shelf.
