Hi,

I have a bit of an issue with my window and doors. The drivers door was not dropping when opening but the passenger door worked fine. I read a few topics (wish I hadn't now) and disconnected the window and door control box. After leaving it for half an hour I reconnected the box and all worked fine - once only. I tested the windows and they worked, the passenger door worked but the drivers still wouldn't drop. So, I disconnected again - reconnected and now nothing. No doors and no windows controls work. To make matters worse, the windows are down, the doors locked and it looks like rain!

Any quick ideas?

As a last resort - how hard should I pull the red handle in the boot? It seems solid.

Tim.

Sounds like a bad connection - take it all apart, WD40 all the connectors, make sure the rocker switch is clicking (the one that leans on the glass).

The red handle in the boot requires a decent tug, but you shouldn't be breaking your arm. I don't think you'll break it by pulling too hard *that* easily.

Hi,

OK - I have managed to move the car under cover, the red handle did require a huge amount of persuasion to open the door. Sees to be much easier now, perhaps it was it's first use?

Anyhow, I think the control unit box is toast as nothing works at all. I am not sure how or why but just seems to be totally dead. When I connect the power to the box (with the other connections already connected) it makes a couple or relay clicking noises but the doors and window controls do not respond at all. I have opened the box up and inspected the board and all looks fine (no burnt out parts or ribbon cable damage) I guess the PIC chip has died.

Now I need to find a new control unit. I have tried Racing Green, Douglas Vally and Bell Hill Garage but nobody has one. The prices seem to vary widely too (not that anyone has one) from £75 to £205.

Does anyone know where I might find one in stock?

Tim.

Hi, I'm not a mechnic by a long shot, so maybe barking up the wrong tree, but my drivers window went on the fritz in a busy carpark over christmas. After unplugging and reconnecting the control box several times nothing! After panic subsided and got my thinking head on I found the metal disc in the bottom of the door shut had fell out, so the control box didnt know the door was closed.
Just a thought.....pray for a simple/inexpensive fix.
Good luck!

I have - they use TVR Power. I spoke to power and they said 4 weeks for a refurb! I don't want to leave my windows open for 4 weeks.

I think my control box has just died. I do not have any door, boot or window controls at all. I can't believe all this started from trying to fix the drivers window drop issue.

If anyone lives near Telford (Newport) with a cerb/control unit I would be very thankful if they would pop round and close my windows.

A few pints will be in it!

Mine did it a couple of days ago, thing is when I plugged it back in, it must have an internal short as if fried a wire going to it and now I have to replace that wire, looks like I'll have to strip the back end down.

Anyway, your problem...

you can put the windows up using a car battery and some wire. what you need to do is put a live to one wire and an earth to another and the window will raise.

Wire colours

Yellow/Blue tracer + RH Window up
Yellow/Green tracer - RH Window up

Red/Blue tracer + LH Window up
Red/Green Tracer - LH Window up

If you reverse the polarity, then the window will lower.

If you take the box apart, you may find that one of the tracks has burnt out, a bit of solder and wire and all should be well. If you like, you could send me your box and I'll have a look at it for you as I have a good one here to check readings ande possibly fix, if you need the box sorting in a day or so, they aren't that complex, a good TV repair shop should be able to fix it

Thanks Adam,

Are you talking about the wires above the power connector in the photo shown in this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=284787

As for a repair - I am still waiting to hear from a couple of places to see if they will need my unit in part ex for a new one.
