A quick question which will hopefully help me resolve a small but annoying water leak from the joint between one of the water rail connections and the block.

Got new 'O' rings, am I better off fitting them dry or should I put some silicon sealant around them for an added seal?

Thanks!

By all means put some silicone on the o rings. They shouldn't need any if the surfaces are clean and flat but it won't hurt just to be sure.smile

Thanks

The water rails at the front of the engine are close to the road(ish) and cop all the water/salt etc so get pitted. I've replaced mine with the stainless upgrade ones as it was only a matter of time before mine leaked and I didn't want to risk it.

Mine was leaking a small amount of coolant from the upper water rail that is just above the exhaust manifold. Was hard to trace as it leaked down the block onto the metal plate and left small pools on the road at the back end of the plate. After putting in long life anti freeze (bright pink!) it was easy to see where it came from after taking the airbox off.

Fixed it at the weekend with new O rings, went for a 200 mile run and there weren't any puddles, so here's hoping!

Whereabouts under the car does the water appear?

Can someone provide a link to a source for these o-rings? I have seen them somewhere but I can't seem to find them on my usual TVR parts sites.

Cheers,

Phil

I got the 0-rings from Racetech TVR, called them on 01491 629219 as they weren't shown on the website. The parts are called 'E1266 Water Rail O Ring' (75p each +VAT). They also had new bleed taps, which I bought as one of mine had lost the top bit (£11.75 +VAT).
