On the subject of an engine rebuild adding value to a car what would people value a rebuilt engine at?

Would anyone be interested in a rebuilt engine to replace theirs? Buy outright or on an exchange basis?

Just curious as I have an engine and full engine strip and re-build facilities at my disposal.

Sounds a good service. If ever the time came when the engine went pop, an exchange basis for one that had been rebuilt and ready to drop in would get my vote. Nice simple turn around.
However, at present my Ol'girl is as tight as a Nun and is as nasty as an Asp!!laugh
Great Idea and good luck.

Difficult one, I would say not that much more. You have not added any value to the car since it is expected to come with a working engine. The value comes in that you may sell it quicker than a car that has not been rebuilt recently.

I paid a relative permium for my Cerb when I bought it back in 2004 because it had just had a 9k rebuild at TVR following a crankshaft failure. About 8 months later, during my ownership, the engine suffered a loose valve guide which spurred on a 13 month rebuild. For me personally, a recently rebuilt engine seemed like the safest option and so I was happy to pay a premium. It also had new cams fitted about 6 months prior to the crank failure. But its never a 100% guarantee.

Ridds, I've thought about it too, taking on a tired AJP, rebuilding it and selling it on, but I don't think it will be worth it in such small numbers. Then you have to worry about providing a warranty which any buyer paying for a rebuilt engine would rightly expect.

cheers, this is purely to see what interest there would be in rebuilding the one I have before selling it and roughly what people would look to pay for one that has been checked over and assembled a little more carefully than when TVR did it originally.

There seems to be little interest in engines at the moment and thbought a freshened one night be more appealing to some.

But the value associated with a rebuild is the warranty that goes with the new engine, plus the implied warranty thereafter. For example, rebuilt in 2006 with 12 month warranty, unlikely to go bang in 2008.
