The question of what the track rod ends are from, seems to be one that had been discussed at length on these pages.

With the help of Steve at AJ Autoparts in Ashford, Kent, I think I've found a match.

They are slightly shorter than the one taken off my car, but there's plenty of thread oin the track rod itself so I think it's okay.

The ends are from a Rover SD1.

OE part no.: GSJ149
Quinton Hazell no.: QR1573S
FirstLine: FTR4073
Delphi AP: TA723
Motaquip: VTR123
Powertrain: PSTR19
Sidem: 65230
Swag: 182-300
Veco: VB366
(cross ref' taken from QH sources)

Hope this is helpful.

Tim

Just one thing... are these rod ends from an SD1 with or without PAS. My motor factor says that the two are different?

Err, got me there, I've given the part numbers they can be x-ref.

I'm not even aware that there was ever a non PAS SD1. i think it was hailed as a major luxury on the car.

With a 2.6 straight 6 or a RV8 they would have been heavy beasts!

A quick check on Rimmer Bros shows the GSJ149 track rod end as used in both PAs and non-PAS cars.

You sir are a star! Along with you're friendly Motor Factor.

They look exactly the same as the set I got last year from a TVR dealer.

Good show!

Indian Track rod ends for my 200mph motor car, for an extra tenner I think I would buy from TVR Power.

Well buy QH or TVRPower ones then!

I suspect that any sourced from indi's are made in the same places. let's face it TVR weren't too selective on their suppliers when they built the cars in the first place.

With my current rebuild i was horrified by the mark up being placed on items purely because they are for use on a TVR.

I also believe, as the cars get older and bits wear out, it's important for us to have a collective knowledge on what the bits are from so we can get spares.

The items I'm buying are of good quality, whilst considerably cheaper than TVR items. This applies to wheel hubs, top and bottom ball joints and now track rod ends.

I track and sprint my car, have been building and playing with cars for years and don't skimp on maintenance or parts. But I resent paying a premium purely because I have a TVR!

Where are the TVR Power ones made then - China? Remember British Steel/Corus are owned by the Indian's anyway smile

No point in getting precious about track rod ends. TVR will have fitted them from whatever supplier had them cheapest that week anyway. Its a lump of metal with a ball joint in it.

Plus it won't quite do 200 mph..... wink

Even with 255/40-18's and reving to 7k it'll only do 196mph. hehe

Oops, did that hit a few raw nerves? I'm not knocking you, just adding my intial thoughts.

For all we know the TVR supplied ones could come from the same source!

Anyway, anyone for some Budget tyres from India?

UPDATE

Do not buy track rod ends from Rimmers Bros'.

Have recieved the pair I ordered in the post this morning, and they are going back!

They are rusty, and part of it is the wrong thread.

Stick with ordering the ends through motor factors, and make sure that the threaded part is the correct thread type and size i.e. M12.

Sorry for any confusion.

Fitted a track rod end today from an SD1 as advised. It went on a charm, so all looks to be ok. The only outside worry is that the slightly reduced length could give me problems when I come to get my tracking done, but for the mean time, it looks as if Mr TT Tim has pulled a blinder!

Many thanks again.
