Hi all, i was just wondering if anyone here has injected their chassis with waxoyl. I am thinking of doing so by unscrewing the bolts found on the side chassis rails and using the waxoyl injection kit.

any thought would be appreciated.

thanks

Aren't they just sleeved? If so, it wouldn't give you access to the chassis rails.

I am horrified by just how bad my chassis and wishbones are. really pleased I'm sorting it now, not a moment to soon.

I've just bought 2 upper front wishbones for mine as they were down to 1.5mm on the vertical portion compared to the usual 5mm!!!

I paid a garage to inject waxoil with their professional kit. We drilled small holes to access the tubes having decided a small amount of weakening of solid steel was better than absolutely complete tubes of rust in a few years time. I paint wishbones etc every year and do n't seem to have the rust moth! Keep away from SALT too!

thanks guys. Tim, i am not sure if the rails are sleeved to be honest.

Alderley when you did the work, did the garage tell you whether the tubes are sleeved? where did they make the holes in the chassis. Im thinking of undoing the bolts instead of drilling any thought on that?

thanks

I think Tim means that where bolts run through the tubes they are sleeved to prevent compressing the tubes when the bolts are tightened but I am not sure. My chassis was done at Cheshire Autobody, near Knutsford on M6 (01565 653514). They drilled fresh holes and the tube was single tube where they drilled. They also did the outside of the tubes with the wax which is still OK except in high abrasion areas (e.g. rear of front wheel arch) which I repaint with hammerite every year. Up on a ramp, my chassis is actually white not rust-brown coloured and it is a 1998 car. Even the chassis tubes around the engine are OK. The secret with wax is to make sure it goes where it needs to - in my case I knew my sprayer was not as efficient as that of the garage. It also only cost £50 (my son works there). You would pay much more I guess.
However, wax is cheaper than a new chassis.

Thanks for this guys, i wont touch those bolts.

But i dont really like using waxes to coat the chassis externaly as it makes it difficult to clean and re-treat. I just use hammerite to paint the chassis and leave it
