On my way back from a brisk drive today the temp gauge stopped working, any ideas? And where abouts is the sender unit?

its not an electrical type guage but a mechanical capilary tube affair.
more than likely the tube has broken

Might be best to leave it broken, then you won't worry about the coolant temperature so much. If it really goes wrong, steam comes out of the bonnet to alert you to the problem.

You would indeed have a more enjoyable driving experience if you remove it altogether and just blank the hole up biggrin

Maybe replace it with an oil temp gauge?

It sounds stupid, but when mine went a few years back, I left it broken for about 6 months and it was so much more enjoyable driving the car smile

IIRC you can't replace the tube on it's own, as it is permanently attached to the back of the gauge. I wouldn't want to replace the whole lot myself, as it's a pretty fiddly run.

I replaced mine, I didn't find it that difficult. Hardest part was passing the sensor end of the capillary tube through the grommet in the bulkhead, That's not the most comfortable position to be in, in a Cerb I can tell you.
There are companies that will refurb your gauge and fit it with a new capillary, probably cheaper than buying new too!

Go on, have a go......... You'll feel better for tackling the job yourself.

We got back at the end of last November. Tan has long gone mate frown but it was a wicked 10 months cool
Strangely enough, it was this day last year (11/02) that we went to Cyprus.

Will try to get to Baldock, but TBH I'm so busy right now and I aint got any wheels yet too! frown

I will be more than likely replacing mine Mick, as I fear I have split the capilary whilst trying to remove it.

If and when I do it, you are more and welcome to come over and see whats involved. I'm just down the road from Bud.
