I have seen a fair few Rover V8 Tiv owners talk about Mark Adams Tornado chips and the likes. Does Mark Adams only deal in Rover V8 tuning? How does he/they fair with the AJP8? Is Mark Adams a person or the name of a company (or perhaps both)? Where is he located?

I am a curious sort, and would like to get the performance of my 4.5 Cerbera tested by someone who really really knows what they are doing. I want to know the car is running at optimal performance essentially, so don't just want to get it on a rolling road, for the operator to merely perform the tests, but have no real clue what to do about the output.

Is Mark Adams my man, or should I be looking elsewhere?
Somewhere close(ish) to London would be easier.

Cheers

The fabled 'Mark Adams Chip' is only for Rovers. The Cerbera has a far cleverer ECU.

Joolz is probably your best bet, or the factory Red Rose upgrade which does give a power hike.

Cheers WB. I am not necessarily looking for enhanced performance (although I am open to it), it's more a case on ensuring what I have is performing as it should. Therefore RR upgrade is not on the cards.

I want to find someone that knows their stuff to put the car on a rolling road and give me an expert and accurate diagnosis, as well as to potentially suggest modifications.

I hear lots of good things about Joolz, but he's miles away from London (as I understand). I don't mind travelling to get this done, but not hundreds of miles ideally.

hi!
you're stuck pretty much with what you've got at the moment anyway until the MBE is hacked, or you go for an add-on piggy back ecu. Chesterfield is a loooooong way to come just to find out you've only got 340 bhp

Not really rude girl. The car feels fine.

I have never put any of my TVRs on a rolling road, and I just fancy having a go, but want to make sure the person making the diagnostic really really knows their stuff (just in case something does turn out to be amiss).

You lost me there Joolz. What one earth does "until the MBE is hacked" mean? What's an MBE, and do you mean hacked as in broken into (computer-speak).

Gixxer - probably the best thing to do is drive another Cerbera, preferably a few. If you have a good friend who will let you swap, it's a fantastic way of spotting the differences between cars, especially steering feel, handling, engine response etc. I always found it very interesting.

Another option is to let someone with tons of experience driving them loose in yours (I volunteer obviously ), like Joolz (or some closer specialist).

Lastly, probably worth doing a rolling road anyway if you're bothered - at least it will show up any awful problems. Any non power issues will just be driveability which you should know about since you drive it the whole time. It should be very smooth and responsive from about 3k to the redline, though there can be a slight lag on the 4.5 if you snap open from a closed throttle due to dried out throttle bodies (cover the throttle with your heel). Does it easily break traction in second on a bend? Can you tell I miss mine? Sob!

Cheers dannylt. I guess I have no reason to doubt the car is not performing as it should, but driving a few others would be a useful comparison. Now if I only knew someone else with a 4.5 Cerbera........

One of these days I'll stop working my arse off and make it along to one of the PH / TVRCC meets and do just that.

From the responses so far, I presume it's not that common for owners to bother with Rolling Road performance checks for Cerberas. I was expecting a "I used XYZ-Racing and they were excellent. Spotted a problem with ABC and sorted it on the spot, giving me another 20bhp" - kind of response.

Never mind.

Gixxer,

I'm based in London with a 2000 4.5 LW (Oval Area). Identical car to yours, except yours is the colour I wanted, DAM! I'm away for the next 2 weeks but if you want to meet up after that drop me a line.

Cheers,

Rob

Gixxer,

I posted a similar thread the other week (www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=48443&f=6&h=0). Just as you I would like to know that everything is running well, purely for completeness sake. I've got a '98 4.2. If you're around SouthWest London send me a mail.

Cheers

I hope this may also help:

As you may have read elsewhere, as a part of TCR, I
plan to try to organise a get together of Cerberas to
help with such comparisons.

In addition I am discussing discounts on upgrades like
Nitrons and also professional on track instruction
from a qualified Cerbera race instructor.

Lots more to come in the next few weeks when we get
the full blown TCR on line.

All ideas and suggestions with regard to the above are
always welcome.

Go create some weather...

Has anyone tried the Dastek Unichip? www.dastek.co.za/ it is a piggy back ecu. they charge about £350 + vat supplied, fitted and mapped on the dyno but the best bit is a 90 day money back guarntee.

Sounds good, but don't know if you'll get discount off nitrons .. one of the rules of being a distributor is that you don't undercut anyone else in the marketplace, all NTR kits are 850 plus vat. wherever you buy from... undercut that and I suspect your supply will dry up pretty quickly!
