Scary wishbones!
Discussion
The strip down and clean up continues on my car, have found the worst wishbone so far. N/S rear top.
Take this as a lesson for everyone, even if you don't get your hands dirty, check the condition of the underside of your car!

Oh, and the same wishbone after blasting and refinishing with EpoxyMastic, still pitted but now rust free and sound.

Rust will kill 'our' cars if left unchecked.

Without wanting this to sound like yet another TVR knocking post, and believe me, that's really not the intention, does anyone here think that this is acceptable on a 10 year old car? The first time I jacked my '98 4.5 up, I found similar looking components all over the place. This was around 3 years ago, so it was only 6-7 years old at the time.
This (amongst other things) dented my faith in the breed, so I got shot. Whilst I agree you need to be an enthusiast to own and run a Cerb, in my opinion, TVR are/were just taking the piss if they think this is OK.
Honestly, I have dragged up pieces of equipment from the sea-bed after 20-odd years that have been in better condition than this.

In a word - NO.This (amongst other things) dented my faith in the breed, so I got shot. Whilst I agree you need to be an enthusiast to own and run a Cerb, in my opinion, TVR are/were just taking the piss if they think this is OK.

I think it is totally unacceptable, when coatings are available to stop this happening, or at least slow the process.
I'm already investigating buying a new chassis, with a view to a body off in the near future.
I have no intention of selling this car, I have tried to future proof it, but stockpiling spares, like engine blocks, cranks etc. and I believe that we should all publish as much info' as possible to ensure that we can continue to fix and therefore enjoy 'our' cars. The chassis refirb' is a necessary evil.
As for denting your faith in the breed, history have shown us that even the big manufacturers give their products totally unacceptable levels of rust protection. BL, Fiat, Alfa the list could continue, so nothing new there.

Hi Tim,
I have encountered the same problems that you have, fortunatly not as bad. When I removed my chassis I too thought of replacing it, how ever I sent it away and had it dipped in acid and then E-coated to protect it from further corrosion. When the chassis came back it was like new, this whole process only cost £600 not bad concidering that I have seen reconditioned chassis for £2500.
