I notice in a few places (inside the engine bay, I think, and in the owners manual) that it states "do not park the car on dry grass or the world will end!!" or similar smile

Has anybody ever actually started a fire by parking their car on dry grass?

I'm thinking of going to an outdoor concert in the summer and, from past experience, the car parking is on grass. I'd like to be able to come home after, rather than adding my Cerb to the fireworks display biggrin

Maybe it's an excuse for some decat pipes wink

Can't answer your question, but the thread title got me this far so I'll have a rant anyway...

yes, you need to be very careful of that. Couple of times I have parked on dry grass and smelt burning as I was about to walk away, on moving the car the area under the cats was scorched black!

Haven't started an actual fire, but I'm always cautious parking on grass. When I first got the car, I parked it on my front lawn to save juggling cars around - when I moved it there were two scorch marks across the grass eek

That said, as long as the parking is not a rough field of long grass, I take my car. Le Mans for example! wink Unavoidable!

smile

(You could always pour some water over the grass before parking??). Anything rather than leave the car at home! nuts

I have had a couple of "close" calls, when parking in fields. Thankfully I have merely burnt the top inch or so of grass on the exhausts, leaving a lovely silhouette on the ground.

Saved in both instances by the fact that the lower parts of the grass was damp...

Do be grass aware! (man! biggrin)

Slightly off-topic, but I believe this was a serious problem on the orignial BMW 2002 Turbos, which had their turbos at the bottom of the downpipe.

I set cardboard on fire when it was being serviced once at Torque TVR.
