There is a screeching noise coming from the engine that has been getting worse, it is at about 4k & sounds like a bearing going, I have disconnected the aircon belt & the alternator now but it’s still there. Pressing the clutch in makes no difference either, anyone got any ideas please?
I funny looks from the neighbours trying to hold it at 4k with one hand while listening to different bits of the engine with a long screwdriver in the other!

Do you mean the air con belt - if so I've removed it completely, if not which one?

Hi there

Mine seems to be doing this too. Had it on the ramp and got my mate to rev it. It sounded like the noise was coming from the bellhousing. I reckon it might be the clutch release bearing but it doesn't seem to vary at all with my foot on the clutch.

Soon have it apart!

Hope this helps

The tension on the chain isn't set by torquing down the bolt - it should always be tightened down fully and wirelocked in place. The bolt itself has two sections, an inner and outer that slide together. The overall length of the bolt is determined by tiny spacer shims stacked inside. Adjusting the quantity of these shims is how you tension the chain correctly.

Next, you'll ask how many shims..... You'll need the AJP rebuild manual for exact details.

When my old BM clutch release bearing went it made an awful noise at any engine speed, but only with the clutch in. Sounds like we could well have a similar problem, I couldn’t really hear it as well with the windows down so it seems it could well be coming from that area – let me know how you get on please!
