Ok - so having done a search I've reached the conclusion that the knocking I get on acceleration and between jerky gear changes is the diff mounts. Firstly, where do I get them and secondly can they be changed with the car on ramps. Or would I be better running to my nearest TVR mechanic.
Thanks in advance
smile

Powerflex sell them. http://www.nivek-styling.co.uk/pdfs/powerflex/TVR/...

Out of focus, but here's the diff mount (1 of 3):

They can be done on the car, looking at them I've put it off for a while. The top rear is gonna be a swine as I'l guessing you'll need to cut out the bush in-situ.

It may be one of those jobs that you start and then really wish you'd paid someone else to do.

Check the wing plates are firmly bolted to the diff. One of mine had worked loose and caused the clunking.

I wouldn't try it yourself. Take it to a garage and agree a price up front. Imo

Back in th good old days when mine was on the road I had the same problem until all 4 bolts that hold the rear bracket on to the diff came loose and the diff dropped causing the drive shafts to rub on the chassis, this bracket is well worth a check before you start to strip it down. I had too remove the diff and re tap the holes, I then fitted the whole thing with powflex bushes. Dropping the diff is quite tricky, and I would not like to replace the rear bush thats in the chassis again. Powerflex part no is PFR79-110 for a full set of bushes (3).

That's exactly the spirit that I preach, and so I'd normally agree with you, but is this one of those jobs to avoid? I have a very good mate who is an indepenent in nearby Bawtry who has offered to do the jod for me, I just need to source the parts. Where in South Yorks are you?

Holmfirth is a bit too far away for us to help each other with repairs. Probably best stick to the pistonhead site. Sound a good place to go for a run out though. Any good roads?

They can work loose, so they are worth a quick check before you book it in and order new bushes. Mine were checked, and tightened up at my last service.

Hi Scott - Big assumption but the symptoms stack up. Clucking on agressive gear changes and sharp accelerating. Might have another look underneath. Its up for sale and I want to make sure its sorted before it goes.
Cheers

mxi933 - I have the exact same thing. Top mount bracket(I assume Rear mount may be the same thing looking at it?) appears to have worked loose or had the problem before I purchased.. I've now gone over a nice pothole (see my other thread) and the brackets gone SNAP!

Took it to a garage today and I've seen it, the bracket has broken and the drive shaft is now rubbing on the sub frame. My father seems to have sourced a bracket for £22 (he's in the trade himself, buying and selling). Because mines the top mount the diff MAY have to come out (Im sure it will). I have been quoted 1 - 3 hours labour depending on whether the diff comes off or not. So not actually to bad.

......maybe 3 heads are better than one and we all meet and do them at the same timewink

Does anyone know where you can get the bracket from?

A diff mounting plate strikes me as the sort of thing that you're not likley to find anywhere other than TVR Power or a breaker. I'm sure I actually saw some for sale on ebay recently from a crashed cerb. They were for sale from ebay seller cerbie71 (who's selling some cerbera parts right now), and I'm sure they never sold.

Just an idea for you - its not everyones cup of tea, but my Cerby had solid diff bushes. By this i mean solid steel sleeves tunred to the same diameter as the diff bush with a spot of weld to keep them in position.

When i first found out - i was a bit worried. But, they had been like this for several years!! I had a good look up on ramps and they worked very effectively. I talked to Joo at Trackcar about it and he didnt seem to think anything in that area would be at risk - its all pretty beefy apparently.

Fitted by V8 Sports and Classics up scotland way who regularly do it on their race cars apparently. (give them a ring if you want more info 07980 652447)

Gear change was slightly harsher but (apparently!! - Never driven another cerb for long enough to notice) to be honest i was never bothered by it, and it made for one less job every other year.

It is still like it now in the hands if TimJM....

The diff bracket was what had given way on S575 in the first place. It had completely ripped apart and the original is made from what appears to be no better than monkey metal. The replacement certainly seemed more solid and whilst that was out, it made sense to have the bushes done. 5000 miles later, it shouldn't have gone wrong surely? Maybe its a driveshaft UJ? Maybe something needs tightening up around the prop/diff area.

Also, I'd bite anyones hand off who quotes 2-3 hours for this job. From memory, it was always at least double that which is why most people avoid it like the plague.
