Hi im having problems with my 4.2, cars been parked up over winter. Decided to tax it and take it for a run but after 5 miles it started have bit of a splutter, was low on fuel so stopped and filled her up, when i came back out she wouldnt start, was cranking over but just would'nt fire. so phoned for a tow, after about 40 min of sitting there give it one more try an she fired straight up. Drove about another 3 miles and she cut out again and wouldnt fire again till about 40 mins later again. finally got home but still got the problem. got it in the garage now, still makes its own mind up when it wants to start when warm! plugged the computer in, only fault is a battery one but adaptives on one side are going up to 40! and sometime D thottle, water sensor are flickering NO CONTROL/OK

HELP PLEASE!

Possibly the temp sensor is sending out of range signals to the ecu when hot. Not sure if it goes by reistance or voltage but you could probe the pin with a meter to see what the ecu is getting by way of engine temp readings as it warms up. Alternatively your lambda sensors are frigged. Good luck!

If the adaptives are goin up on one side try swapping the lambda sensors over and that'l tell you if ones knackered!! No sure if that would stop it starting tho

Similar thing happended to me the other week and I traced it back to a dodgy fuel pump/lamba relay. Try and feel whether you get a click from it when you turn the ignition on (if your arms are long enough!).

I just replaced the old one and I was off again. One of the nicer things to have gone wrong.
