Things to bear in mind the seller has made very little mention of the condition of the car,

The MOT is going to expire in May, I would definitely ask about the chassis and about conditions the cars has seen.

Bearing in mind that even cars that are taken care of can have chassis rot which will fail the MOT I would be most concerned about that.

But then I do have slightly different requirements from the Cerbera I will be getting.

Am I mistaken, or are those wheels 'GREEN'?

By the by, you really need to ask the seller as many questions as possible and ask to view it.

If he is skecthy in his answers, or doesn't agree to a viewing then walk away.

Thanks all, Obviuosly my head says steer well clear but have looked at getting a cerbera for some time and the chance to get one in the region of 6-7k is appealing, would have it proffesionally inspected prior to paying out any money but would this reveal all chassis rot or is that a body off job. yep i think the wheels are greeneek and they would be changed asap

Er.... the auction ends in 7 hours. You'd better get a move on if you want to have it professionally inspected before then. £6-7k sounds like a bargain but all it takes is an engine rebuild, a new clutch and a few other issues that will probably need sorting and you've spent another £6-7k.

Might as well buy this one http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/414805.htm

I'm ashamed of myself for such an obvious plug biggrin

When are people going to realise that there is no such thing as a cheap Cerbera. If your after a cheap Cerbera because it's your dream car, then you can't afford to run one, simple as that.

How do you know i cant afford to run one? do you know my financial situation? NO. i asked for advice on the car because there seems to be alot of people here that know alot more about these cars than me, i realise that buying a cheap one will probably be a false econemy but did not know if anyone here new about the car in question. Not asking for silly comments just advice thanks.

I don't think he meant anything by it but it is true. I could almost promise you that a Cerbera for that price will need thousands spent on it......

Firstly it is a Cat D insurance write off.

I was looking at this car some time ago, so rang my Broker who said stay well away!! Price went way too high for a Cat D!

So make sure you can insure it and under what conditions before you make any offer, as they may only consider it to be worth half what you pay for it?

But I doubt you will get it insured without an Engineers report.
Does he have one? Could be a decent reapir with no problems?

But I would not even consider driving such a high performace car without a decent Engineers report after being written off.

I know there are a lot of "Repaired without Insurance company knowledge" cars out there so its always a gamble.
These are often offered on Ebay and perhaps we sould get the numbers and hold a register?

Yep, but it has .been sold more than once before!

Perhaps the buyer pulls out when he tries to get an insurance quote.

I was told there were very few companies who would touch Cat D cars.
And I know none will without an Automotive Engineers report.
Unless old Emil Savundra has started up car insurance again?

The labour to repair the bodywork on a cerbera is usually so expensive that they are written off imediately as a cat C or cat D ..so usualy verly little (if any) chasis damage or engine damage..so chances (IF).... its repaired properly it could be a nice car.

I've just repared a cat c cerb with very little suspension damage, mainly bodywork damage. With no expense spaired and 6 months of work (The labour bit) a passionate project and labour of love for me .. Yay! and another cerb back on the road rather than another lost..
grrrrrr sorry rant over .....Oh boy & what a car it has turned out to be!!!

also had no problems insuring the car at all

Cheers,

Mark
