Cerb recall over suspension problem?
Discussion
Hi, just found this accidentally on the VOSA website:
Make: TVR
Model : Cerbera and Tuscan (all variants)
Launch Date : 31/08/2001
Numbers Involved : 1534
Build Start Date : 16/12/1996
Build End Date : 08/05/2001
Concern : POSSIBLE CORROSION OF FRONT SUSPENSION UPRIGHT
Description : A build up of corrosion adjacent to the front wheel bearing bore can cause the suspension upright to crack and ultimately affect steering control.
Remedial Action : Recall affected vehicles and replace the suspension uprights with a new design where found necessary. Fit an additional cover plate to those uprights showing no visible corrosion.
I've not heard of this before, does anyone have any more knowledge?

err, NO.FRONT suspension.
Would be interested to see the different variants, was it the hub carrier that they changed? I ask as mine is different from Windsor's.

Yes it was a recall carried out at TVR dealers for free. I remember doing hundreds of the things ..
edited to add : the earliest hubs were very strong and didnt need changing, then they introduced a thin-wall hub which cracked when the alloy corroded and the pressure against the steel bearing cracked the hub itself. Some would literally fall apart when you changed them. scary. I remember picking up on a few on MOTs and changing the hubs on many cars before the free recall came out only to have to change them again for the upgraded ones lol.

Tim your hubs look like the later hubs ie the ones fitted in the recall, i think the giveaway is the thicker nicely machined alloy brake caliper spacer and a hub with no brake caliper mounting lugs on it. Been a while since i saw the different versions not doing servicing and all that any more.

Tim, those uprights I've fitted were given to me by the previous owner. Apparently, and as the recall reads, they were only replaced if showing signs of corrosion on inspection. The kit I was given was the replacement kit, but had never been fitted as the originals were fine. It was definitely the recall kit, as it had printed instructions from the factory on how to remove the old ones, inspect, and then refit the new ones if necessary. Also, it mentions fitting a cover plate - the kit did come with cover plates which I have fitted (just siliconed onto the back to stop the elements getting at the inner bearing face). The originals didn't have this cover fitted.

Ohhhh, that's interesting.May seal up the back of mine then.
Was it just a flat piece siliconed in place?
This was the state of mine after taking them off:

and with the hub removed, pic taken from the other side:
