Steve Heath's Drop Down Roll Bar Links!!!
Discussion
Steve, thanks for the new drop downs, brilliant pieces of kit and I have to say that the last ones lasted two seasons and are still fine. Realy add feel on the edge and with the new rubber and downforce everything is under a massive amount of strain, hence the 51s at Brands even with the understeer that saw off the front left in 40 laps! Now fixed by the way. You forgot to send the stickers through to APM Andy!! Happy to wear them! All the best John
Without starting a bun fight, a well respected PHer is of the opinion that the drop links set the car up too stiff, so grip can therefore be compromised. I believe some people have their ARB's disconnected, which i guess underlines this theory?
A discussion point maybe? I have them fitted front and rear on my cerb and the car is slightly stiffer and it will be interesting to see the state of the ball joints after a winter or two of grit and grime.
Cheers

I fitted them to my car, and yes, they did make it stiffer. So i just wound back the shocks about 5 clicks and the 'stiffness' was back to how it was prior to fitting them, but the advantage is that the car - I'm not a 'Track boy' so I don't know the correct terminology - feels less 'rubbery' and more responsive to quick steering inputs.

I've got Steve's drop links on the front ARB and have removed the Rear ARB completely, will report back after a track day or two and a few sprints.

Did this myself at the last test session i did. Found the car better handling without the rear anti roll bar. My knowledge of suspension set up is apaling but others were saying that it may not be anything to do with the roll bar but issues with the rest of my setup?Tim

Anyway i found the car quicker minus the rear ARB.

Mike, with a billion pound/foot set of springs at the back that you have on, the movement will be minimal in any case. I have links on the front and back and have run without a rear anti-roll bar in the past. I do find the progression under load more predictable with the bar on and I don't think that the normal set-up is sophisticated enough to run with it off. My suspension set-up with the Ohlins is pretty much the limit as to where you can go and they (remember APM Andy is involved with their technical set-up)recommend that the bar is on with rose jointed drop downs for an immediate load up. Jonny
I put the drop links on the Chimaera and (apart from stopping the typical rear end rattle which was a victory in itself) found them to provide a significant improvement in being able to sense traction and balance.
Disconnecting the ARB itself sounds a little more adventurous and while doing this as a track mod might be OK, what are the insurance implications of this mod for public road use? Could be a problem surely?

I know there are other factors involved, but what poundage springs are you guys running on the rear?
Or would you have to kill me if you told?
Tim
I would tell you but theres to many 0000's behind the number to fit onta a post!!Or would you have to kill me if you told?

Tim
Everyone keeps telling me im running the car way too firm, however the car feels really good to me!

Mike
We're running 550 on the rear of the T350, I dont mind telling you that as 1) the rear of our T350 isn't like any others out there now I've modded it and 2) we have to cope with the downforce from a very efficient rear wing so until someone else runs a T350 in the same spec these rates are useless to anyone else .. however if you're up around 550 ish on the rear of your un-winged cerbie I'd say you were much too stiff, based on all the track work Ive done in cerbs I can't see why you would need more than 400 even on slicks unless you were trying to cover another issue that you can't easily sort without strong springs. So go on then what rate are you using Mike?

…and I'm on 500 as you know Joolz.

.. which will be great with a wing .. we are on 550 amongst other reasons to stop the tyres fouling on the arches as our wing worked extremely well last year and we expect the new one to be as good with less drag hopefully. did you buy Cliff's old wing in the end ?
