just got the cerb back from Dream m. Had full service, diff bushes replaced and de-cat with straight throughs in place of cats, but retaining standard back box. John at Dream machines did a great job and the car feels like new, but cant tell any difference in sound or running of the car. What are the advantages in having it de-cated? Must just say D.M did a great job at a very good price.

I put the decats on mine a couple of weeks ago, went from a loud car to a hell machine! its got a custom sports exhaust on though so that might exagerate the difference?!

Just had mine decatted. Sounds fairly 'normal' wink on tickover/normal running but above 3k OMG!! - Go searching for nice long walls or tunnels... driving

Had mine decatted, and the difference in sound is huge, it pops more and spits flames every now and again. Power is up a bit too, and I use the standard exhaust with the backbox

Reasons I de cat.

A: Don't like paying to have them replaced when they break.... cheaper to just pop them in for the mot

B: Don't have to worry about them breaking down and losing a few bhp

C: Nice noise when you decide to get in to the high rev range smile But doesn't nause the neighbours on tick over (like the sports pipes that are on at the mo)

Mine isn’t much louder at idle, but she sounds so much crisper driving with superb pops and bangs during throttle off. At full beans, it’s definitely louder, whereas before the actual mechanical sounds from under the bonnet were too pervasive and let’s be honest, it’s not a great sounding engine from the front of the car!

Reasons to decat.

Cost of a replacement cat - £440 new (or there abouts) against £110-140 for decat pipes.

Noise - significantly louder. I've gone from 106-to 114db. Some might like this, some might not. It's a bit loud for touring but not too drastic. Trackdays would be problematical though?

Heat - the cabin is a lot cooler without two huge heat sources next to your legs/seat and I bet it helps the gearbox/clutch.

Less heat in the car, more pops&bangs on overrun, sounds fantastic with sports pipes on!-others have commented on how good the car sounds.
