Having used the search facility I see this subject has been touched on before but................... My heart is telling me to take the plunge and buy a cerbera, my head is telling me that it may not be such a good idea. The problem is that I will need to use it every day. Personally I don't see that, in itself as being a major issue. I'm used to powerful rwd cars, I'm no stranger to a set of spanners and I tend to really look after my cars.
Are they really so fragile that it makes this idea a non-starter or with a bit of preventative maintenance does it sound reasonable. I would be looking for a V8 rather than a 6, just personal preference. I fully appreciate by the nature of the car that certain parts ie clutch, brakes etc are going to work harder than on a 'normal' car.
I managed to use a Lotus Carlton as a daily driver for nearly 7 years, yes I had the usual problems but thats life and to be expected. I'm religious about warming my cars up before giving them a hard time and equally letting everything calm down a little before switch off.

In a nutshell then, if I buy wisely (yeah right!) and go for a well looked after Cerby thats maybe had a recent clutch etc does the plan seem reasonable? I really want to experience cerbera ownership but maybe I'm expecting a little too much.

any thoughts would be appreciated

cheers

Si

So long as you have a few quid for the maintenance, go for it. (you're a long time dead)

I don't use mine every day but I wish I could! (I have a company car)

If well maintained and you have all the potential problems resolved already then you should be OK.

Simon, many will say driving them daily is good for the car. I'd agree. A Lotus Carlton, now there's another nice motor. Wasn't the one that used to be parked near the Barbican in London every day?

Not guilty m'lord. I currently live in norfolksestershire so the Lotus was fairly close to home. Then went on to a supercharged 5.7 holden hsv, which was a giggle. I think the Cerb will be a much more 'pure' driving experience.

Going back to the Lotus, the ones that get driven once in a blue moon seem to get as many if not more problems than the regular use ones. I used to drive mine in rain, snow, sun, whatever really and it was still kept in showroom condition.

I just enjoy driving too much!

I use mine every day for a 60 mile round trip on A roads. Not much of a spanner man, so I get the work done at Dulfords (top blokes). I could afford a run-about to keep the mileage/costs down. But every time I think about it, I say to myself, "Do you really want to drive a euro-box every day?"

It's an easy answer smile

Well as a daily drive you probably need to sort a few things out, if the previous owner has not.

Mine was not used a lot, as only 37,800 miles in 10 years when I bought it last month.

I totally agree that driving it will do it less harm than leaving it standing for months on end.

But it is much more extreme than any other car out there! DO IT!

The delay in response from GTS means he has just shot out to buy one after these glowing reports. Well done boys, job done!

You have to go for it and you will not regret it even at he lowest moments. I bought my 4.5 last year with the same thoughts of driving it every day, but trust me you wont. Remember your driving habits will change, you will look up at the clouds with dred. You will park in the furthest space from the entrance in in Tescos and you will never drive with a hang over! Buy the cerb and get a shogun for towing and rainy days like me. You will always be glad you did it.

Ok gents

points taken! Guess it would be rude not to now! You'll be hearing from again in the near future hopefully introducing myself as a newbie Cerb owner and hopefully not with a string of question about how do I fix this that and the other.

Thanks for all the input

Great minds think alike! i also keep my cerb tucked-up under a cover only to emerge in sunshine, and drive a shogun as my daily hack. Dont have to wory about where you park it or senile old fossils backing into it. biggrin

I drive mine every day and it's true that they are not cheap to maintain but if you can afford to feed it you can afford to maintain it. There is really not much on the car that is mega expensive to fix other than the engine and the V8 is by no means delicate. Even engine problems are nowhere near Porsche or italian repair prices for cars of similar performance. Gearboxes, clutches, suspension etc are no more expensive than most top end cars, and compared to my Audi A6 the Cerb parts are bloody cheap.
