I'm looking for a bit of advice regarding ride height.

My car is desperately low on the ground, causing problems with speed bumps etc. I can't tell what make the shocks are, but there isn't a damper adjuster and the height adjusters are seized onto the ring with the grooves on, and that ring spins freely on the damper when you turn the adjusters with a C spanner, so I think I'm heading towards a set of Protech* shocks.

With regards doing an initial set up, I'm looking for some guidance on ride height. A quick search on here is suggesting 140mm/150mm front/rear from the chassis rails, or 150/160, whereas at the moment mine is sitting at about 110/120 !!

The dampers are also so hard that if you try and bounce the corners there's virtually no movement at all, and the cars "yaws" from back to front at cruising speed.

So, please can anyone advice on the suggested ride heights and click settings ? Just want to get it "close" before I get a proper set up done.

cheers

Mike (4.2 on standard 16" rims, if that makes any difference)

( * don't want to start an argument about the various choices of shocks available; seems that's been done before several times !!)

Re-adjust the ride hight to 140 front and 150 rear from the chassis rails.
Set the shocks up so the rear is lot softer than the front, there is no definitive answer, but a rock hard back end is not what you want. I have Gaz Golds, adjustable from 0-40 clicks, and mine are set 12 rear and 22 front. Also, getting the ssuspension geometery sorted is pretty important.

many thanks Alan; those heights will help me get it initially setup, but I appreciate a proper geo setup is required.

from your description of the dampers it sounds like you have the std later tvr dampers with no damper adjustment other than ride height, the adjuster rings always seize onto the threaded collar and you often can't get them unseized again .. taking teh springs of and moving teh circlip up a groove might be the better option if it has multiple grooves (it should have I think from memory) ..

thanks Julian; am going to replace but will have a play with the old ones; they might prove useful to someone at some time, but the dampers (or possibly the springs) are rock hard.
