Bit surprised at the cerb prices for a 2000 or 2001 4.5 model. Russellm has his for sale at £16k, so i guess that shelves any idea i might have had of selling mine!

Thats about what I paid for my 1999 18 months ago, so it seems about right. Prices actually seem to be steadying off, and there appears to be 2 diffeent class's of Cerbs emerging - cheaper nasty ones that attract the first time buyers, and the good ones that the enthusiasts go for - or am I just kidding myself smile Anyway, what's the point of selling them?

No you never Rob, mine had done over double the mileage of yours smile

Plus the price I'm selling it for, is what I paid a year ago.

I use it as A daily runner, by the time it comes back from the clutch, I'll have spent over £8000 on it (not including tax, fuel, insurance etc) in the last 12 months.

I could inflate the price & leave it on the drive for a couple of months, but the other car's almost ready & I'm desperate for the drive space. As it stands, if it comes back from Power, I've possibly got Three viewings this weekend.

Your car's worth what you sell it for, not what mine sells for smile

Next time I limp in there I won't be able to glance over at your car and think 'oh well, it could be worse.'hehe

Yes Colin, for the time being. If that hits me with anymore large bills it can follow the other one into the classifieds biggrin

The 4.2 feels light, skitish, manic & dangerous ........ Everything I wanted it to be smile

The 4.5 feels better put together, in TVR/Lada terms & more controlled on the throttle pedal smile

The 4.2 feels like it wants to kill me on every journey...... Just how I like it biggrin

surprised by keeping the 4.2 and getting rid of the 4.5?! that really is proof that one is as good as the other is it not?

I have been watching the prices closely, and there is definitely a levelling of prices, there are the well looked after, typically enthusiast owned cars, and then poor examples, its quite obvious which cras are which IMHO...

I've had the 4.2 for near on five years.

Everyone's got their own opinion on the different engine's , and this is mine.

I've got a fast car, that gets lots of attention, sounds nice and owes me £16k
I've also got another fast car, that gets lots of attention , sounds nice and owes me £10k

I might aswell have the £16k in my pocket.

I've give the 4.5 a year, spent a couple of quid on it, and I still don't prefer it to my first Tiv. We've bonded biggrin

yes Haven't been as luck as you to have both 4.2 and 4.5 to compare, but from what I've experienced with mine the early 4.2s with those lumpy cams are just insane, light weight, reving projectiles!

The thing still amazes me when I go to overtake at 35 and find myself backing off as the needle starts to fly past 100 in what seems like a hell of a lot less that 9 seconds!

On Cerb prices, I've just noticed the other thread about the Yellow Cerbera, that looks similar to the one at Hexam.

Autotrader have the following 01 4.5's for sale.

51 plate 54k miles, private sale £15500
X plate 40k miles, TVR Mads £18000
Y plate 29k miles, Hexham £25000

I'm amazed that those three cars can be £9500 apart. 1st one may, may not be on the register I suppose.

I think I'll re advertise mine with another ten grand on top & see how I go biggrin

I'm going to be selling mine soon (wife forces sale!). It's a real difficult decission of where to price it. I don't know how much things like a recent full respray, new clutch, recon gearbox, Ohlin suspension, stainless coolant pipes and silicone hoses, to name a few things done over the last year and a half add to the overall value? I have a good idea at what a dealership would put it up at, but don't know how close to pitch it privately?

Sorry to see that you are intending to sell the 4.5 Russell and I hope you can recover what you paid for her. Shock horror yikes that she wanted another clutch! that was an almost new clutch when you bought her (I won't tell you how many she has had prior), but that engine is faultless. However I do admire you thoughts on ownership (I don't give a s**t) as that is the only way anyone can justify owning powerful cars.

Tell me Russell, have you worked out how much I sold her for into the dealer??? don't worry I won't blab it on here.

Good luck, and I am pleased that she did find a good home or put another way, a decent chap with deep pockets!

Hi ya Laurence, I keep tabs on your threads now & then, to see how you're getting on with the Monaro.... I'm your Internet stalker biggrin

I've been looking after her for you, don't worry smile.... she's remapped now (378bhp) & that engine hasn't used a drop of oil in the 4500 miles I've put on her thumbup

Clutch..... still at the dealer having a service & mot...... but I think they mentioned one of the seals....I was busy on the counter at work when they called, so wasn't really listening smile

To be fair, for what I'd get for her, I'm half thinking of just keeping it. I've advertised it before but after a couple of "is it fast" "is it economical" "can I run it for less than a tenner a week" questions, I end up pulling the ad smile

Public knowledge..... It was on Autotrader at £16k when I bought it...... I'm guessing the dealer had up to £2k in it, so presume Vauxhall allowed you £14k on it ? smile

As you mentioned, the running costs don't bother me, if I want something cheap to run, I've got my Transit van smile

How does the Monaro compare ? I'm guessing that 400lbs must give it a good kick up the backside smile

shame that it involves so much work to get to the slaves! Bloody clutches on the cerbs, fo me it was the only weak point.

Back to the topic "prices"

I found it was not so much what your cars are worth (stand alone value i.e. not trading in) but what someone is prepared to pay. So for me I chose the trade in route through a dealer, that meant that I had to take a 10k knock on the retail value of my car,and about 4k on trade value as TVR at that point went tits up! However the dealer one way and another gave me a 10K discount off of the new car! So deal done and i was up 6K and no hassle, nice and clean deal.

Tell you what Russell i am sure we will meet up at some point this year and i will give you a run out in the Monaro as she has been mildly tuned and is doing about 430 horse at the moment at the fly, but the torques are what does it, down side, weighs in 1,800K so no LW.

PS if you do sell her try a Monaro, you won't be disapointed.
